Poppy Collasped at the Park Today

Recommended Posts

This evening, about 6 pm, right in the middle of a game of ball, Popcorn suddenly started walking around drunkedly and stumbling, legs giving out.

So we went to the Pet Emergency Clinic.

The E vet told us it was his heart. He said that it didn't sound right. That it should be going "whoosh whoosh" - but it is a kind of murmur and a gurgle.

So we have to go to another vet specialist and have a doppler test done to check blood flow and figure out what is going on. So for now my poor baby is on bedrest.

He is still shakey. The vet says to keep him calm until we have the test done.

He also said that when he runs too hard, his heart is malfunctioning, causing his blood flow to his brain to be compromised and it makes him feel faint(and actually faint).

Good vibes going to Poppy! My Zachary has a heart condition - he's doing very well on heart medication and at 13 he races around like a puppy. Crossing my fingers for you that it's not too serious.

"Popcorn suddenly started walking around drunkedly and stumbling, legs giving out. "

That's exactly what happened to River this time last year near sunset after only throwing the ball like 7 passes. After about 10 mins of resting in the shade she was better and within an hour or so, back to her normal self.

Scary enough that I posted about it here last year - I was worried.

Poor Poppy. I hope he's not to bad. My thoughts and prayers are with him and you guys too. That had to be really scary! I hate health problems.

Big hugs from me and Black Jack.

Im sorry to hear that. I hope Poppy is fine. That happened with my labrador once. He was about 9 years old and I was playing fetch with him in the back yard. He was a really big lab at 90-100lbs. He wasn't fat, just really big for the breed. Very muscular dog. Well all the sudden he collapsed and couldn't get back up. He tried a couple times to get up and scraped his chin open on the concrete patio. The vet said that he had an enlarged heart. We made sure he took it easy after that.

I had an old dog that terrified every vet she ever went to.

I'd bring her in, they'd stick the scope on her chest, they'd get pale, they'd look at me nervously, they'd move the scope around, and when they stopped listening I'd tell them, "I already know about the murmur." I would just forget to tell them until they did it.

Every vet listening told me she ought to be exhibiting serious symptoms.

She never did, and she lived to the ripe old age of.....old. I can't remember how old now but old. And it never bothered her. And we anesthetized her regularly for teeth, etc.

Hopefully, life will be as easy for Popcorn.
