D'Elle
Many of you no doubt remember Kelso. I am posting this here, rather than adding to the old Kelso thread, because I figure more of you will see it here since you may not be checking the "Foster Dogs" forum. I hear from Kelso's person pretty regularly, and he is doing supremely well. He and her husband adore him beyond words. I could not possibly be happier with the home that he went to. She works from home about 95% of the time and so Kelso has a lot of company, and when she goes in to her job often Kelso goes with her. She has sent me videos of him playing on a beach, chasing the waves and running down the shore with her. I get photos of him going hiking, going camping, going for rides in the car. In all of them he looks so bright eyed and happy that no one would believe where he came from. I asked her to post one of the videos on YouTube so that I could share it with all of you who followed Kelso's story with me for a year and a half. (you can read it in the other forum if you are new here and don't know his story). In the video Kelso is playing "pinball soccer". She taught him to return a large ball to her by pushing it with his nose, but he got too fast at that so now she sets up an obstacle course for him in the house. Apparently he loves to push the ball. And I am attaching some of the photos that she has sent to me as well. Isn't he just beautiful? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Td0CZNU5mf8&feature=youtu.be
KrisK
That's terrific news. You did wonders with Kelso and knowing he's in a great home must make you so proud!! I'll have to watch the video later on. Yay for Kelso and his wonderful family!
urge to herd
WOW! What a success story - I wouldn't have recognized him as the same dog. Kudos to you, D'Elle, for all your work and patience. And congratulations to Kelso's new family, for following through and giving him such a wonderful life. Pardon me while I grab a hankie. juliepoudrier
He looks so happy! Just goes to show that even dogs who don't seem to stand a chance of making it can do so with the right loving foster care and permanent placement. Kudos to you and his adoptive family. J. chene
Link that works: Though the Kelso saga was before my time here, of course I've read through it and been moved by it. I caught my breath when I saw the title of this post. I'm so glad to see a happy update. It really is incredible. He's just adorable. Damn, this is making me want to foster again. urge to herd
^^^ Thanks, Chene. There's a link at the end of the first vid to another Kelso vid. So good to see him so crazy happy! Ruth and Gibbs
D'Elle
Oh thanks, chene, for doing that. Don't know why the link did not work...... Today Kelso's person wrote this to me (I don't think she would mind my copying it to you...) *** ".......everything is "his" now and he has no problem "asking" me for things. I love when he "asks" me for things. He goes in my closet and roots around in various boxes or bags looking for interesting things to play with....yet he is so respectful -will bring what he finds to me first. As if to ask approval. Of course, I most often comply with his requests. A few weeks ago I put a yoga mat on the floor (I had good intentions to do some yoga that day). I went to the fridge to get a glass of water and the next thing I know he is dragging my big yoga mat down the hall to the bedroom. It was hilarious! He is precious! " *** I always felt that Kelso had a goofy sense of humor somewhere in there, in spite of everything he went through. It's so cool to know that it turned out to be true! Maybe one day I will be lucky enough to be able to foster another dog who has a long path to walk, and I will get to walk some of it with him or her as I did with Kelso. I will always say that Kelso gave me more than I gave to him, and I am forever grateful to him.
Gideon's girl
He looks like a dog that NEVER had a care in the world!! Who would have ever thought that was possible!
gcv-border
Wonderful update! One would never know his background unless they were told. Good work D'Elle, Kelso and his wonderful adopters.

mbc1963
That's so FABULOUS! We all have such a soft spot in our hearts for Kelso, and in that video he looks like he's always been a happy-go-lucky dog. Amazing!
JohnLloydJones
Seeing those photos and video made me happy. Each one of those Jefferson, TX dogs I have had the pleasure to work with have shown an amazing ability to shake off the past and get on with life. Certainly, they have needed someone to help them build confidence and I know from personal experience that it is a work that require lots and lots of patience, Thank you Constance and thanks to all the our rescue colleagues both in AZ, TX and everywhere in the US who helped the 167 dogs pulled from that place. WickAndArtoo
Ah yay!! I love this so much what a wonderful update I only recently joined this forum, but it was to look up how to work with my rescue who was terrified to be touched and wouldn't let us near him so your story was one I read frantically in the middle of the night that first day. What an inspiration, dogs are such magical and resilient creatures! Way to go kelso what a lucky family to have him.

Annmarie
Hello everyone! It's me, Kelso. First, a big hello to my wonderful foster mom, D'Elle....I hope we can get together again very soon! I would love to see you once again. This morning, my mom and I were at the park and we ran into a published author from the Scottsdale, AZ area. He rescued his dog, Gibbs, from the same rescue place in Arizona (small world!) and he wrote about Gibbs in "Notes to Gibbs." My mom said she's excited to check it out. As for me, I just wanted to sniff Gibbs....we got along really well. Anyway, I'm doing great! I promise to send more updates to my foster mom so that she can share with you. I will try attaching a new video and photo now... Love to all, Kelso
Annmarie
My foster mom, D'Elle, taught me to "wait" so well....it comes in handy while playing soccer with my adoptive mom (see video). My mom often hand walks me and my horse sister, KoKo, together on the hiking trails. Everyone stops to talk to us and some take our photo together. Some people want to hear my story and then they learn about the horrors of puppy mills. As for me, I just love to have FUN!
