mudthirsty
Can everyone here help me compile a list of movies that you have seen a Border Collie in? Whether its been for 2 minutes, or with a main character. I've been renting a lot of dog movies lately, such as dog park, and good boy. But I never see Border Collies in them. Stafford
There's the obvious one - Babe. The only other one I can think of off hand is Owd' Bob, which seemed pretty poorly written but did have a lot of border collie action in it. Was the dog in Down & Out in Beverly Hills a border collie?
Deb Mickey
I think it was a border collie in "Down & Out in Beverly Hills". Another one with a border collie working sheep is "The Village" starring one of our own shepherdess, goose controller, and sheepdog trialer here from the northeast. She and her dog Jim appear twice, I think, and you have to look close since they are in the background of the shot.
BustopherJones
"Snow Dogs" - Nana appeared to be a Border Collie, and stole the show.
Sue R
Actually, the fewer Border Collies I see in movies, the happier I am. The results of exposure to the public never seem to benefit any breed. But, back to the question. The ultimate "movie" with Border Collies - "The Year of the Working Sheepdog". How about "The Twelve Dogs of Christmas"? For some reason I think a Border Collie may be a bit player there, or at least appear on the cover. There's a cute Border Collie (right, that's Nana) in "Snow Dogs" (which, in spite of its listing on many critics "worst movie" lists is one we love in our family) although she does produce a litter of cross-bred half-sleddog pups in the movie. Not a good example of responsible breeding to set for other Border Collies... You can always include "Lassie, the Movie" (or something like that, it's fairly recent, from the 1990's). There's no Border Collie in it but Border Collies did the real work of controlling and moving the sheep so the clueless Rough Collie could run around looking "rustic" and doing nothing but running through the sheep. Karen Lacy used Tom's trial dog, Midge, and our own (from this forum) Joan's Rip (who was one of Tom's dogs at that time also) to handle the sheep for the movie. So, no Border Collies in the movie but a couple behind the scenes. All the work and none of the glory, but that's probably a good thing... border_collie_crazy
"Bingo" stars a red and white BC. I know I have foud it amusing that is all of the recent commercials for old navy they manage to toss a BC in there randomly, just a breif clip for no reason whatsoever. lol when I noticed that I was like "well apperntly old navy is aiming for my buisness" lol

If you look really close, you can see Viggo Mortenson (Aragorn from LOTR) as the Amish boyfriend's (played by some russian ballet dancer) younger brother. Dixie_Girl
The Tim Allen and Kirstie Alley movie I was referring to was the one where they had to hide out from the IRS at an Amish farm and pretend they were "cousins" of the family. Tammy525
Oh, thanks painted ponies. You are right. I was thinking serious hiding, instead of funny hiding Dixie Girl. I am not much for movies other than the rated G variety, no consolidated time without kids around! Someday I'll catch up.
Smokjbc
There's a brief part in the BBC version of Jane Austen's Persuasion (w/ Amanda Root/Ciaran Hinds) that has a shepherd driving sheep with the help of a Border Collie. Owd Bob is kinda bad- but has some good working- except by the "star" trial dog- he is obviously a looker but not a do-er. If you ever wanted to show a person a "mechanical dog" - that one looks like a puppet behind his sheep.
