  1. So this is where we part, my friend, And you'll run on, around the bend, Gone from sight, but not from mind, New pleasures there you'll surely find. I will go on. I'll find the strength. Life measures quality, not its length. One long embrace before you leave, Share one last look, before I grieve. There were others, that much is true, But they be they, and they aren't you. And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought, Will remember well all you've taught. Your place I'll hold, you will be missed, The fur I stroked, the nose I kissed. And as you journey to your final rest, Take this with you....I
  2. Near Bethlehem some time ago, A flock of sheep was dwelling. To shepherds, sheep, and sheep dog, too, Angel choirs came telling. Good news, not fear, to all the world, A baby in a manger. "We'd leave to see," the shepherds said, "But our sheep would be in danger." "To watch the flock, we'll leave the dog, While seeking mankind's Savior. The dog will guard and keep the sheep From wandering behavior." Though disappointed not to go To Bethlehem's blest stable, The dog felt duty-bound to work As well as it was able. The shepherds came at last and praised God for Christ
  3. I lost a treasured friend today, The little dog who used to lay Her gentle head upon my knee And share her silent thoughts with me... She'll come no longer to my call, Retrieve no more her favorite ball; A voice far greater than my own Has called her to His golden throne. Although my eyes are filled with tears, I thank Him for the happy years He let her spend down here with me And for her love and loyalty. When it is time for me to go And join her there, this much I know... I shall not fear the transient dark For she will greet me with her bark. ~ Author Unknown

High up in the courts of Heaven today A little dog-angel waits. With the other dogs he will not play, His just sits alone at the Gates. ”For I know my Mistress will come”, says he, ”And when she comes, she will call for me.” He sees the spirits that pass him by As they hasten towards the throne, And he watches them with a wistful eye As he sits at the gate alone; "But I know if I just wait patiently That someday my Mistress will come," says he. And his Mistress far down on the earth below, As she sits in her easy chair Forgets sometimes, and she whistles low For the

  9. Unlike most days at Rainbow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray, damp as a swamp and as dismal as could be imagined. All the recent arrivals were confused and concerned. They had no idea what to think for they had never experienced a day like this before. But the animals who had spent some time waiting for their beloved people knew exactly what was happening and began to gather at the pathway leading to the Bridge to watch. They knew this was something special. It wasn't too long before an elderly animal came into view, head hung heavy and low with tail dragging along the ground. The oth

  12. Baby's Dad still posts on this board, but under a different nom de plume. I will leave it up to him if he would like to identify himself to you through an IM. Thank you all for your well-wishes. The prognosis is very good, so I plan to continue to participate for quite some time (or at least for as much time as my advanced age allows).
  13. Let me begin by apologizing for not having kept up with this section. Between computer problems and the aftermath of cancer treatments (which I am still undergoing), I simply have been out of touch. I now have a new computer, and for at least a few days (until my next treatment) I feel up to posting. I was devastated to come to this section and see how many loved ones have been lost during my hiatus. Instead of my trying to respond to each one individually, I hope you will accept this thought extended to all of you that I know are hurting. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with
  14. If it should be that I grow weak, And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then you must do what must be done, For this final battle cannot be won. You will be sad, I understand. Don't let your grief then stay your hand. For this day, more than all the rest, Your love for me must stand the test. We've had so many happy years, What is to come can hold no fears. You'd not want me to suffer so. The time has come, please let me go. Take me where my need they'll tend And please stay with me until the end. Hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer can see. I know

  17. Somewhere...somewhere in time's own space There must be some sweet pastured place Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow Some Paradise where horses go. For by the love that guides my pen I know great horses live again. ~ Stanley Harrison Vaya con Dios, Otis. Horses also wait at Rainbow Bridge; and instead of walking across, Nancy will ride in style.

  19. Go in peace, my valiant friend. Suffer no more; sweet sleep has come. Be welcomed by our friends; They have blazed a path for you to follow. Wait patiently, for I will join you again, Your keen vision restored to lead our way, Strength renewed, for we shall journey forever. I learned from your courage In the waning of your days. You fought bravely through the pain, A whimper never passed, Always by my side as I was by yours. Your battle is over, our grieving begins, As I lay you to rest In the yard were we played. Your place in my soul will always remain filled. So rest now in
