Obi is an 11 month old PB BC rescue boy. He is very sweet, typical nosy, happy pup, in love with the world and he loves everyone and wants so hard to please.

Monday morning when I left for work, that was how I would have described Obi. When I came home from work Monday, Obi was sick. Big time. He was crated and was wet and he smelled. He was throwing up and lying in his own vomit. He couldn't drink enough water, he was so thirsty, but the water didn't stay down, so he continued to drink copious amount of water, only to immediately bring it back up in huge puddles. He was depressed, listless, and walked like he was in pain. At first I thought gastric torsion, but that wasn't it.

He slept by me in a crate that night and I withheld water, so the puking stopped. First thing in the morning I took him to my vet. X-rays of his abdomen showed "something" in there and so he went in for surgery. It was indeed a blockage, a nectarine pit. They also removed about 2 inches of bowel and resectioned it and Obi bounced back from the surgery like a champ. He was raring to go yesterday, but they kept him just to make sure he could eat and drink and keep it down, and that everything would pass OK.

I was supposed to pick him up today after work. I got a call this morning that Obi has taken a turn for the worse. He is throwing up and has spiked a fever. He is on IV antibiotics. Ironically, he was supposed to go to his new home this weekend.

Keep Obi in your thoughts please. He really is a good boy and needs to have a chance at a new life.

Thanks all.

Oh, my goodness. Not a stellar month for BC fosters . . .

Strange coincidence. When I was in the e-vet (or rather, the specialists the next am), the couple next to me in the waiting room were there with their Golden pup, same age, who had swallowed a penny. He had a similiar surgery but he was going to be there all week because this was his second similar surgery. Apparently the pup has a penny fetish. Wow, big bucks. They showed me their $4000 penny, almost with the pride of grandparents showing off grandkids' baby pictures.

Many good wishes for Obi - sure wish I could offer more than good thoughts but, um, we gave at the office, unfortunately.

A Prayer for Sick Animals:

Heavenly Father, the bond we have with our friends of other species is a wonderful and special gift from You. We now ask You to grant our special animal companions your Fatherly care and healing power to take away any suffering they have. They trust in us as we trust in You. Give us, their human friends, new understanding of our responsibilities to these creatures of Yours. Our souls and theirs are on this earth together to share friendship, affection, and caring. Take our heartfelt prayers and bless these ill or suffering animals with healing Light and strength to overcome whatever weakness of body they have. Your goodness is turned upon every living thing; Your grace flows to all Your creatures; Your Light touches each of us with the reflection of Your love. Grant long and healthy lives to our special animal companions. Bless their relationships with us, and if You see fit to take them from us, help us to understand that they are not gone from us but only drawing closer to You. Grant our prayer through the intercession of good St. Francis of Assisi, who honored You through all Your creatures. Empower him to watch over our animal friends until they are safely with You in eternity, where we someday hope to join them in honoring You forever. Amen.

Oh gosh, that is scary! Those darn puppies will eat anything! My bc, Charlie, had an obstruction when he was a puppy. He ate a washcloth. Luckily, everything turned out fine, but it was scary. Hopefully, everything will turn out well for Obi, too. Sending healing thought his way.

Best wishes, Obi. Glad he's at the vet where they can treat whatever infection is causing this. We'll be sending good vibes his way.

Dogs! Why do they eat this stuff? A few years ago, my next door neighbor's Portuguese Water Dog ate a fully-loaded pin cushion, filled with her quilting pins. The big, sturdy ones! He required surgery, but was fine afterwards. Her souvenier was an x-ray, showing it right there in his stomach. Sheesh.

RE: Prayer for Animals:

That is a very sweet prayer. Although I don't appeal to St Francis of Assisi (please understand), i believe that God cares that the "whole earth groans awaiting His return...."). God knows their pain and frustration. (and despite some misunderstandings on this board, I try to be mindful of this at all times. My prayers join your's for Obi.
