urge to herd
Gibbs' morning poop was very, very soft, almost runny. His digestion has always been pretty sturdy, except when he had giardia. I also know that dairy products don't agree with him, so he hasn't had any of those in a long time. So, cottage cheese is out, and I don't have the supply of canned pumpkin and frozen chicken I used to keep on hand. I gave him about a half cup of well cooked white rice with a little kibble thrown in and he gobbled it right down. Will be getting some chicken and pumpkin, but what else is there to firm things up that isn't dairy? Ruth and SuperGibbs
Gideon's girl
Sweet potato, Metamucil, cauliflower, unsweetened apple sauce.
GentleLake
In addition to the above, banana. Really though, the rice and pumpkin would be at the top opf my list.
urge to herd
Ah! It's been so long since I've had to deal with this regularly all the mainstays had flown out of my head, except the chicken and rice. Thanks for the reminder. Ttiffany20191
Rice, chicken, canned chicken..if you can't find pumpkin in the grocery store anymore you can order it online..ran into that problem myself after the holidays. Hope he feels better
Sue R
Here's an easy way to remember - it's CRAP (chicken, rice, and pumpkin).
urge to herd
So far, so good today. Will see what the morning brings. Thanks for the hint, Sue! Ruth and SuperGibbs
highway61
I use Firm Up! as an additive to their kibble (with water) when my boys have a bout of diarrhea. http://www.allthebestpetcare.com/2012/10/09/firm-up-pumpkin-for-digestive-health/
urge to herd
All is well. Next up, teaching Gibbs to leave the trail-side buffet alone. Ruth and SuperGibbs

bcnewe2
We dont' have a trail side buffet we have chicken poo casserole! Chicken poop everywhere! My dogs think it is appetizers! I grow my own kefir. I feed it to the dogs at least once a week if not more. They seem to do very well with it. So do I!
GentleLake
Dunno why I didn't remember this sooner, since I use it with Tilly. You can also sprinkle mashed potato flakes on the dog's food. Easy to find in the grocery store even when pumpkin may not be available. I always keep a box on hand. I know you don't need it now, Ruth, but maybe it'll help someone else another time.
urge to herd
Thanks for that idea, GL. I love sweet potatoes, so have decided that there will always be a couple in the house. I'd never thought of them as a remedy for dire rears, and appreciate that info, as well. The problem with canned pumpkin, for me at least, is that I only find it in those big cans. So I open one, use maybe 3-4 tbs, and what do I do with the rest of it? Not a fan of pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie is okay but I'm not going to make a whole pie just for me. My hips would not appreciate it. So sweet potatoes fit the need nicely. Ruth and SuperGibbs
htmlgirl
I freeze the canned pumpkin in ice cube trays then pop them into a freezer bag afterwards. Convenient serving sizes for whenever I need it
Gideon's girl
That's what I do too. I always have a bag of pumpkin ice cubes in the freezer. Actually, I do that with a lot of things.
rushdoggie
I keep the firm up stuff on hand too, its small, doesn't spoil readily and easy to toss a few flakes on if I see even a slightly soft poo. Much easier for me then having the canned on hand all the time. I live in a shoebox, the smaller and lighter something is, the happier I am. Gideon's girl
And when you live in a shoebox, you don't have nearly unlimited freezer space...
