BCjetta
On Monday we had to put Jetta down. She was around 16 and was doing fine up until Sunday afternoon. I knew something not good was wrong with her by the way she was acting. I took her to work right after the agility trial I was at and did x-rays and bloodwork. An hour after getting barium, it was still all in the stomach. Long story short, Monday we discovered she had a mast cell tumor elsewhere and the vet figured it had metastasized to her intestines and blocked them. I knew it was time, she was in so much pain and I couldn't do anything else for her. I had to wait for my mom to come back from the cabin so she could say goodbye (Jetta normally lived with them now). Below is a poem my mom wrote about her, it makes me tear up to read it. Jetta – a Farewell Tribute There in the last kennel sat a jet black little pup So quiet, so sad, when her brown eyes looked up And then a small movement down by her feet And a tiny black puppy emerged for a peek. A mother so young, not much past a year And yet she now had eight puppies to rear We knew right then that she would be our own And in October ‘95 we did bring her home. This dog seemed so sad, just no will to move And by the next day she did not improve The Vet said “It’s Parvo, this virus can kill” But she fought it so hard with such a strong will. And so little “Jetta” joined the Harman family Such a cute little face, she was as good as can be No barking, no mess, so gentle with each toy With unconditional love, she brought us such joy. She “helped” open pressies with surprising delight She “saved” us from spiders that surfaced at night She greeted us so eagerly at the door every day With her curled tail wagging, she was eager to play. Despite her small size, her personality was grand She loved doing her tricks for the treat in your hand Showing attitude one minute, then eager to please She conquered – if willing - the trial course with ease. And now we look back – where has the time gone? It’s been 15 years, and in dog years that’s long Our sweet little Jetta now showing these years Still struggling on bravely, delaying our fears. On June 7, 2010 her fight came to an end And we did say good bye to our beloved little friend The memories we have will forever burn bright Even though we may shed a tear late at night. Jetta, you were the best “first” dog a family could own You brought so much love to our lives, to our home Thank you, Jettie, we will miss you so much Your floppy little ears and your soft velvet touch. Will miss the pitter patter of your feet along the hall You were Mummy’s little shadow, never far at all So Rest in Peace in doggy heaven, free from any pain And one day we’ll join together to walk the trails again. Luv always, Mummy, Daddy, Sarah & Kate

BustopherJones
High up in the courts of Heaven today A little dog-angel waits. With the other dogs she will not play, She just sits alone at the Gates. ”For I know my Mistress will come”, says she, ”And when she comes, she will call for me.” She sees the spirits that pass her by As they hasten towards the throne, And she watches them with a wistful eye As she sits at the gate alone; "But I know if I just wait patiently That someday my Mistress will come," says she. And her Mistress far down on the earth below, As she sits in her easy chair Forgets sometimes, and she whistles low For the dog that is not there; And the little dog-angel cocks her ears And dreams that her Mistress' call she hears. And I know when at length her Mistress waits Outside in the dark and cold For the hand of Death to open the gates That lead to the Courts of Gold, The little dog-angel's eager bark Will comfort her soul while she's still in the dark. ~ Adapted from a poem by Norah M. Holland, 1870 Via con Dios, Jetta.

DixiesDad
All of us send our deepest sypathy. RIP Jetta This has helped me in the past. The Last Battle If it should be that I grow frail and weak And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then will you do what must be done, For this -- the last battle -- can't be won. You will be sad I understand, But don't let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years, You wouldn't want me to suffer so. When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me till the end And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must be you Who has to decide this thing to do; We've been so close -- we two -- these years, Don't let your heart hold any tears. -- Unknown
