Rave
There are over 10,000 users registered on these Boards. Now I know those aren't all active accounts, so say even just half are active, that's 5000 people. That's a lot of people who are passionate about Border Collies in one place and who can make a positive effect on a bad situation. In case you hadn't heard, there's an emergency situation involving this breed we all love going on now in Texas. An emergency that needs our help as advocates for and defenders of this breed. Here's where our sheer number can make a substantial impact. If everyone here could manage to send just a mere $5 donation, that would add up quickly to $25,000. That's a pretty powerful number. If you haven't read the story yet about how the puppies may be dehydrated because they can't even reach the water, it'll make you cry. Then it'll make you angry and wanting to do something. So do something! Let's all help rescue save those poor helpless Border Collies. Visit their website for a mailing address for your check and a paypal link too: http://www.bcrescuetexas.org/ I've sent mine, have you sent yours? $5 is one lunch, one latte, one movie. Surely we can all give up something this week for $5? Thanks for your time and your donation.

This was just posted on the BC-L: Dear Fellow BC Rescuers, As many of you already know TX BC Rescue is dealing with a situation with a large number of dogs coming. At the bottom of this e-mail is the detailed information. Border Collies Across America has been asked to coordinate the Midwest Region of Foster Homes and Transport for BC's coming into rescue for those rescue groups covering the following states: WI, MI, IN, IL, MN, IA, & MO. A Border Collie hoarder in McKinney, Texas is surrendering his 60 dogs and the Border Collie Rescue of Texas is in need of $$ donations to vet out these dogs and get them into foster care. Please take a moment to read the email string below and see pics of these apparently purebred Border Collies [edit]. Bobbie of the Border Collie Rescue of California is making a plea for donations to be sent to the Texas rescue group. I received a request for help from BCR-TX they have been hit with about 60 Border Collies in an emergency situation. There are many puppies. They have already pulled some of the pups, but need help for vetting and foster homes. All of us can make a difference for these dogs. I know this, since Sam and many came to assist us when we were hit about five years ago with about the same situation at Paul Smith's place.. Please send donations, any size is appreciated. BCRTX stood by us when we at BCRCA were hit with the same situation five years ago. I have offered to take some of the dogs in CA, transport will be the major problem at this time I would think. Vetting is important esp. since in Texas they have heartworm, which we do not usually see around here too much, so I am sure each will need to be tested and put on preventative and that is only the beginning of the vetting needed for these dogs. Foster homes are needed, but once again there is the distance for us or our adopters that are willing to help. So at this time $$ is needed from CA to help TX. I remember too clearly how exhausted we all were out here in CA with this same kind of situation, and how a number of us just broke down and cried. It was overpowering to our minds just how we were going to help all the dogs. But with the help from so many, we were able to do it. So lets stand up now and help BCRTX in their needs to help these 60 Border Collies. Please don't let another day go by without sending a donation (no matter how small) to them to help these Border Collies. Please send donations directly to: Border Collie Rescue Texas, Inc., PO Box 1338, La Porte, TX 77572. This is the email message I received last night about these dogs: Hi Bobbie, We have no hope of doing this alone. We started pulling puppies tonight and will work to pull as many as we have homes for. I need your help to raise vet money and foster homes. People can make a difference. Any ideas...any other group...anything at all is greatly appreciated. Here are pics of the dogs: First set of pics. I just got off the phone with DeDe, who went out this afternoon and she is emotionally exhausted. Said she broke down and cried after she left. I could tell in her voice how stressed she was. Dogs are not in too bad of shape, except there are some malnourished looking puppies there. The man dumps out a 40 lb of Ol Roy every day and the dogs just eat it off the ground. The puppies can't compete with the big dogs too well. She was also worried that the youngest litter of puppies, 8 weeks old, are dehydrated, as they can't reach the water that is in the wading pools that are out. Inside of house is filthy. more dogs inside that she did not get to see. She could not tell how many dogs there are but estimated 60. So sad, looking into the eyes of the older red dog.....tragic for all involved. Apparently the owner is emotionally unstable & only releasing a few dogs at a time & rescue doesn't want him to know that this alarm is being put out. They don't want to put anything specific on the website in case he might see it.
Rave
Is there a link to what's going on there? I went to the link provided but didn't see any specifics about an emergency. The reason there's nothing on the site is apparently the owner of the dogs is watching the site, and as unstable as he is, they don't want to set him off. Thank you TDogs for posting the info! Christina
A powerful message. I've been reading about this all day- simply heartbreaking. I don't have much to give but gave what I can. Cross-posting is also extremely useful in situations such as this. I posted the message to Facebook and asked others to repost. Since the owner of the dogs is keeping a watchful eye on the rescue's website, hopefully he won't find the posts about this situation anywhere else. Rave
I was intentionally trying to be a bit vague so it wouldn't show up in a search. Maybe there's a way to make the Boards unsearchable via the major search engines until this situation is resolved?
mbc1963
If you're like me, you're much more likely to donate if you can PayPal some money quickly, rather than having to find a checkbook, stamp, envelope, etc.. So, here's the link to the TX BC Rescue "help" page. If you click "Make a donation," it will take you to a PayPal link. http://www.bcrescuetexas.org/help.htm Mary

Blueborders
On behalf of BCRTx...thanks to everyone who has offered support to us as we, along w/ NADAC Rescue, help these dogs. Like was said previously, we haven't put information on our website as the owner does look at that and he is in a very fragile state and we need to keep good relations with him. We've had a great response from the Border Collie and rescue community and have lots of folks on stand by as we slowly get these dogs out and into rescue. If anyone has any questions, please let me know! Thanks! Katrena BCRTx Area Coordinator
