jdarling
We are planning a duck trial for the end of the month. No sanctioning. Cash payout. All ducks. Ranch trial. We're trying to come up a name for it. Would love some more ideas. Two so far ... Kenducky Derby Quack Attack 2009

dracina
For a morning trial, I like Duck 'n Donuts.
Rebecca, Irena Farm
Ranch as in fun obstacles and stuff? I've always wanted to do that - I think it's the "right" way to trial ducks because it's how you handle ducks if you actually use your dogs to move them around. You never gather them in a field and walk them in little straight lines. Anyway, Mallard Classic 09 Daffy Trails
Sue R
I vote for Ducks Amok and Ducks N Donuts (for morning event only). Well, and Kenducky Derby, but that's so subtle. I have always like the one they use at one trial out West (and the name eludes me) - The Intergalactic Duck-Dog Challenge.
Debbie Meier
You never gather them in a field and walk them in little straight lines. You don't, that's a regular treat with our ducks at night, gather them up from around the property and then march them to their night pen making adjustments to factor in draws and little renegade groups that want to go their own way. Same requirements as if we were working sheep, circles and lines. I never thought of Naming the duck trial....I like Duck(s) Amok, good one Julie Deb
Rebecca, Irena Farm
I was thinking of "gathering" three to five ducks at several hundred feet and then marching them in inexplicable little straight lines. With cattle and sheep, I always imagine that these lines replicate having to guide stock in precise ways on very dangerous trails. As you say, with ducks, it's all about dealing with weirdo renegade ducks and the draws, and getting them where they need to be, in and out of the usual barnyard obstacle course. I always said that ducks are more like miniature cattle than sheep - but eye is much more useful with ducks. sweet_ceana
What was Daffy Duck's name as a space man/duck? Wasn't it something like Duck Dodgers of the 24th and a half century? IF I am remembering correctly how about (please read the following with a cartoon booming voice): Duck Doggers of the 21st century? Instead of that staff thing he carried you could give Daffy a Sheppard's staff.
