Indydog
At what age are you able to tell if the ears will be erect or not? My gf and i argue like kids about our pup's ears. She like them floppy and I want them to be erect.
PSmitty
I think it varies a little from puppy to puppy, but from what I've heard, the ears will do crazy things during teething, and you'll have a better idea after that's over. So, like about 6-7 months old you should have a pretty good idea if they're going all the way up or not, maybe. Folks with more experience might know better than me, though. Alex's ears were still a teeny bit floppy when I got him at 3ish months old, and they were fully erect at about 5 months.
Angie H
Binx's were fully erect at 5 months and they tipped a tad bit here and there between 5 and 7 months...Now they are back to looking like bat ears!
RuthBelle
Belle's ears were floppy in the middle until she was about 9 months old or so. Now when she's excited or in her intense "keeping her eye on the ball" mode, they stick straight up. When she's relaxed, the tips of them flop over. bc4ever
I want them to be erect. Of course you do!
vanillalove
I love prick ears! I definitely switched over some time ago from tipped ears. How old is your pup in that picture?

vanillalove
Do you have a more recent picture? We could compare to see how they've moved? You're probably going to get a good idea of what they're going to do by what they're doing now and within the next month or so.

tualizzy
Jak's ears were up and down until almost a year old... now they're standing tall, and only flop over if he's sleepy and has just crawled out of his bed.
JaderBug
Jade is 10 months old and her ears are up and down all the time. Her breeder told me her ears would stand up. They tend to stand up when she's reeeeaally reeeeaally excited about something, but otherwise they're down, or one is standing up. It's odd, I keep guessing whether they'll be up or down, but who knows
Sam'smom
sam's ears seem to be on the side... kinda like bat ears but not quite.. lol.... not at all sure what they will ultimately be like.. along with his coat, it's not really short , not sure if it will be long either.. skyler08
That's the way Skylers' have always looked, kind of up, down and all over the place. She can control them pretty well. Piper's seem to bo down all the time. They are both 7 months, so I'm sure things could change still. Piper is on the left, Skyler the right
vanillalove
Or you could have a dog for 9 years with tipped ears and all of a sudden have a prick eared dog like me. Well, that's a lie, he's not truly prick eared, but we went for a few months with them straight up this year. Ears are crazy things!
doggietrio
Fuze had cute "button" ears (floppy fold forward) when we picked her up. I swear to goodness that night, they started lifting. So, between 7 weeks and 10 months, she had every sort of ear set possible... And, ended up with mis-matched ears most of the time: But, really, she has prick ears. I guess it just depends on the day - she's 2.5 yo now. RobbieBurns
Robbie at 16 mos. His ears were fairly erect from the time we got him at 4 months. Up to 9 months there was a lot of movement, he looked like a bat most of the time. He is now almost 2-1/2 and looks pretty much like this photo except his chest hair is fuller and curlier. Edit: Oops the photo is small but if you click on it you can see it better. (Just getting the hang of this!)

Lilyloveskisses
Yea I’ve read a lot about this, my border collie when I first got her the ears were down at 3 months, erect at 4 months, at 5 months one is erec and one down and that’s where I’m at approaching 6 months, I want them both erec. Deborah D-J
Our puppy is 3 months old. One ear is up the other is floppy. Does touching/petting the ears have any effect as to them? If there are erect will petting them cause them to be floppy?
