Guest LJS1993
Well thank god my fiance took the bull by the horns and pretty much had me pay for a membership at the local dog park. I was a bit apprehensive but all I can say is, great idea on her part. We decided to go around 6:30 when it was nice and cool. Well, we rode up on a pack of old ladies and their mutts. One part Beagle, a part Airedale, some other little yappy mutt, and some mutt who looked like it might have some ACD in it somewhere. Immediately these ladies tried to "big time" me when it came to knowing my dog. They didn't have a clue as to what she was and were surprised when I said she was a Border Collie. They did have a good idea of having us go in another fenced area, first let the dogs run side by side along the fence, then bring one of their's in to meet Freckles. That was about all that went well with those old ladies. After Freckles completely out ran them along the fence and made them look like out of shape Richard Simmons drop outs, the lady had the idea of letting the female Airedale meet Freckles. Freckles was apprehensive, but then got mad when the Airedale growled at her and started to attempt to stand over her. Well the lady took the Airedale back and then brought in her little yappy mutt. Freckles stared at the mutt in wonderment as to whether it was a dog or a chew toy. Well then she took her dog back and decided to let their pack of dogs run in the other side of the fence next to Freckles. As they were doing this some stalky guy with a head about as big as mine drove up. He came out with some super stocky dog that was very happy and playful. As they went into the other fenced area he immediately gave alot of attention towards my fiance, Freckles, and myself. He called me over and introduced himself as Sean. Man, it was great, he had a huge accent which turned out to be Welsh!!!!!!!!! He was from Wales and was raised around BC's his whole life. He talked about how he loved them but couldn't have one because he didn't have the time to give it the proper "work" attention. It was so cool, him and I immediately sparked a friendship. He was telling my fiance and myself all kinds of cool things about Border Collies. He then offered to let his male Chow/Sharpei mix "Chubby" meet Freckles. We agreed and this is when more fun continued. Freckles was very unsure of Chubby. Chubby just wanted to play and seemed to really like her. At first she was really shy, and seemed to be very protective of my fiance and myself. Then after time she started herding Chubby. He would run and she would follow, crouch, eye him, then take off and nip his cankles. Chubby loved it!!!!!!!!!!!! Freckles though working in her mind, was having fun with Chubby!!!!!!!!! Sean seemed to really love Freckles and told us that she was a real working dog. He told us that she really would love sheep since her prey drive was so strong. Man her eye was so strong!!!! I've seen it before but it was so great to see her do her natural thing. After time she let Chubby lick her several times, though she did nip at him. Sean seemed relaxed and told us that with time Chubby and Freckles would be good friends. It was great to just relax and talk Border Collies with Sean. I have hopefully made a good friend in the process. My fiance had a ton of fun too running around with both dogs and talking with Sean about dogs. I don't think the other dog owners realized Freckles body language or the fact that she is a whole different breed of dog. They seemed perplex at her crouch and overall style of running. Nonetheless, Sean and I agreed to meetup again on Monday to let our dogs chill.
