ChantalB
Hello all! I'm currently living in the west kooteneys in BC, but will be moving up to fort Nelson for forestry work soon. Middle of nowhere! Anyway I'm axtively looking for my next agility dog, I currently have a 4yr neutered BC male, who would also love a dog companion, so itz important that new dog will like having a sibling. They don't have to love each other (that would be amazing though) but must be able to peacefully get along with training and routine, I do not want to have to crate/rotate. I'm looking for a bolder dog, not soft. Not easily phased as i move around quite a bit following contracts or opportunities. If the dog has known travel experience and did well, that would be an asset as i also like to randomly go on adventures too. It would be such a plus if the dog was a good traveller, I have a roomy jeep liberty. I'm not a perfect on paper adopter either, I'm 24 yrs old and i move around, and rent (actually I'll be buying a travel trailer this summer). My current dog has benefited the world with this type of changing scenery and socialisation, he has amazing confidence where he started soft, he's in the halfway house equivalent of reactive dogs (other dogs, cats, animals, work environments, very scary leash reactivity as a young dog, he chased) and is doing so well. Although I move alot I strive to keep everything in a routine, and dogs do have firm boundaries with me. A nilif except love, lots of love, and cookies! I have stable job and know how much animals cost (vet fees last year were 5000 alone, and dont ask me how much i spend on training!) I'm young but in number. A dog coming to me will get a dog centric lifestyle. I'm working in forestry to save up money to one day open a training center back home on our property, dogs and agility are my true passions and what everything is working towards. Working in the bush allows me to take dogs with me. It may be quite sometime until an adopted dog will have the training to be allowed to come with us (solid recall and a strong bond with me) but that is a goal. I don't want kids (but you may change your mind when your older you say? Doubt it... but if I do I'm looking at 10-15 years down the road. My goals come first.) What if you get a boyfriend and get married? I respond with so? If you knew how stubborn and dedicated to my dog I was, ain't no man coming in the way of that (and I grew up show jumping, and did not succumb to the boy crazy teenage phase, horses won). Because of my unconventional lifestyle and age I've been outright denied, maybe someone can give me the chance and in turn give a dog a second chance too? I promise that dog will want for nothing, health, training or love wise :-) My whole life my money has gone to 1.animals (horses as a kid, now dogs) 2. Living expenses 3. Savings. I. Not a shopper, mall rat, extravagent person (though I do love gadgets being a technie nerd). Bold dog (i always ended up with the '"crazy" horses growing up and training.. hmmm) Athletic dog built for sports. Work ethic, maybe already loves toys, smart, enjoys human company and working. Border collie (or I'd take in a smaller mix, border and something complimentary for sports. 16“ height) Likes other dogs (family dogs anyway) No true aggression. I can take reactivity, but i can't handle a dog without bite inhibition or that doesn't have any pre calming signals instead just cuts to the chase 6 months to 2 years as a loose age frame, ideal 10 months-1.5 years Travels well Another plus would be a none barker. Obviously warning barks are appreciated, but one who can be taught to relax in a crate without whining for hours on end or loud obnoxious barking. My current loves the sound of his own voice. Its been a journey to shut him up :-) If anyone knows of such dogs within reasonable (8 hour one way) distance. Or rescues that won't deny me outright I'm all ears! PS. I understand the need of rescues to be picky, I just wish more did a case by case basis. I won't deny that any dog living with me will have an amazing life. The best of the best. And i could get some mighty fine trainer and character references :-)
