Now I need to find a good stone wall

So......I think I will take a break from foraging stock, and get my filly going. Lady calls has some 10 acres of fields, tall grass, doesn't use them, well fenced.

Move big flock there.

Next day, Lady calls me and says,

"How come there is manure? Will you rake it up?"

I go out there.....I explain the circle of life......

I have explained the circle of life so many times I feel like that Disney Lion movie. Heck I could sing the dang story of the circle of life.

I ask her, "Show me the manure that is bothering you.."

She gets down on her hands and knees and parts the grass.....and finds....a sheep pellet.

She stands back up and says, "Well?"

I decide I can either get p***** Or

Start singing.........

ITS THE CIRCLE.........

The

Circle

OF LIFEEE!!

Oh dear. How dare those sheep poop in her grass! The nerve!

(And did you know there are actually companies that do that kind of clean up? I used to help with a trial that was held at a city park, in the area where kids normally played soccer. The city hired a company to come out and vacuum up sheep poop when the trial was over....)

OMG

You have no idea....this island....it is a wonderful but crazy place.

It is just now it is attracting the very well to do.

I have told you my best ever question once before......

"How do you get the hide off the sheep without killing it?"

This about sums up where my poor island is going.....

Well I'm off to sing more

---------------------------------

Vacuming sheep manure.....I wish Grandpa were alive, I'd call him and tell him about that!

There was (is?) an Alpaca farm on San Juan that has a poop-vacuum tractor! It is SO weird. Because, you know, wouldn't want turds around messing up your pastures... pastures that have animals in them... oi.

*says he who came in with boots & pants covered in sheep, cow, and pig poop today*

Oh, Tea! :rolleyes::D:D

I'm so glad you have a sense of humor! I think my reaction would be a blank stare, some stammering, and then I'd just walk off with no idea how to reply.

Until maybe an hour later when the moment has passed ... :D

Still owe you an email. Had the illusion I'd be able to reply via my Blackberry over the weekend - HAH! I had no reception out on the field! Then as soon as I got back to the room, I was asleep! :D

Cheers ~

One of the women at church that rents a house at a working goat farm was whining.

The goats had broken out (i know...imagine, goats breaking out) and moved to the lawn, where they promptly deposited the goat pebbles while they ate.

She called the landlord/farmer to help get the goats back in...and insisted he clean up the poops because her young children could get poop on them. ummmm wouldn't that then be any farm kid in the world? She was ranting...i just stopped her and said, i wouldn't clean them up either, she was being ridiculous...not very Christian of me...but that was dumb

To be fair, I know that there are times, especially with horses being kept on limited pasture space, where you really do need to clean up poop, but in those cases, it's usually about the health and well-being of the *animals* and not the aesthetic sense of the humans. When my sheep shared the yard with my dogs, I would scoop sheep poop--at least the clumped stuff--at the same time I scooped dog poop, but of course in that case it was more about sharing *limited* space and not having poo up to our ears....

I don't particularly like stepping in poo and not realizing it and then dragging it into the house and onto the carpets, but really that's such a small thing compared the the grander scheme. I think one of the reasons I'm so healthy now and rarely get sick is because I grew up on a farm where we routinely went barefoot. Exposure builds strong immunity! Too bad many folks today think it's better to reduce exposure--the person pays in the end when that unchallenged immune system finally runs into dirt and germs (egads!)....

When my sheep got out recently, a family friend who had noticed this, and I were talking and he made a joke "See that poop, that can't be there, what are you going to do with it?" And I, who had not LOCATED the sheep yet, said "You can eat it". Wow, even makes me shudder a bit, I generally am not like that...

We all laughed, but seriously, when you have loose animals, poop may be a trail you need!

I have my head banging emoticon saved as an image in my Photobucket account and just drag it out and post it as an image here when I want to use it...

I hope the sheriff has his lights flashing and does the occasional "whoop, whoop" with his siren while he's escorting. May as well go all out and make it really official! lol!

I love teasing my neighbours about 'poop and scoop' laws when they ride their horses down the road  I'm with you Julie....I INSISTED that my little ladybug needed to eat at least a pound of dirt before she was 2 :D When my daughter rolls her eyes, I also remind her that she liked to eat BUGS! :D thankfully, my daughter and sil are not ones to use antibacterial, super cleaner, etc.

I wouldn't mind some sheep poop....guess I'll have to get the sheep soon :D

So I went up there today to check my sheep. Had little Valiant Taw out to gather.

Some folks come by with a loose ...I don't know......maybe pit buill type dog and some little white fluffy dogs on those reel 'em in dodads.

Maybe these are the movie producer people, I didn't get a chance to ask them because as I shut the gate. Taw decided to go under my truck...One of the reel 'em in dog then fastened itself to my leg.

I had JUST got a new pair of pants for my birthday.

The lady said, "He always does that."

This was when I was trying to get him to let go.

One of her little girls said, "He always bites us!"

I then said, as the lady finally reeled him off of me.

"If your dog bites me again he is going to be booted into the next county."

Then as I tried to remember compassion and forebearance the d*** thing grabbed me again.

So this started the chase. I shook the dog off and ran after him like a crazy person swearing the whole time.

Lady dropped the reel, little bitey jumped back, into their car.

"Now.....If I were you I'd figure this out. Because I am trying to be tolerant and you and this little dog are fouling me up. What is the matter with you that you have a dog that bites your own kids? Are you a wacko Or what? Welcome to the Island......"

Then I left.

Is it me? What is going on in the world? Have I missed something????

Tea, get the head banging emoticon back out. A lot of people don't expect good behavior from their dogs (or their kids). It's sad, it's frustrating and I don't blame you for wanting to boot it. Over the weekend we were gone to a trial which meant cable tv in the motel room. We watched It's me or the dog (I think). I couldn't believe what this mother let her 2 kids go thru with their freaking dog.

It's called permissiveness. It's cloaked in the desire to not hurt anyone's (animal or child, that is) feelings or self-esteem. It's led by the belief that correction or punishment or consequences that really are consequences = abuse. You're just seeing the end result. Welcome to the feel good world. It's a scary place for those of us who were raised (and raise our own) to have manners and be respectful.

Before I left the Washington DC area (some time ago now) they were already calling that kind of dysfunctional, anti-social, rude, dangerous, self-centered behavior "entitlement disorder."

I don't care what they call it, I still do not get it.

As for the sheep beans... I think you should tell 'em that's highly valuable 100 percent organic fertilizer, and if they don't find a way to return it, you'll have to charge 'em for it. Good sh*t don't come cheap.

At least part of it will be true.

I just don't get it either. Years ago my own sister, who was over visiting with her kids, wouldn't even take a bite of my home grown pork roast because "its been raised in the dirt". She also wouldn't eat my eggs because my chickens ate bugs. She now has an immune disease and her kids, now grown, are always sick. My kids who grew up in the dirt wrestling with animals, are never sick.

I also don't get the let your dog do as he pleases mentality. I see all kinds in my groom shop. They tell me their dog won't let them brush it or clip nails etc. I always look surprised and ask them who is the boss in their house. Of course they always say the dog and laugh.

There are some really sheltered people in this world. I'd hate to see the time come when we no longer have our modern conveniences and people have to manage for themselves.

Seriously, it's out of control. I'm 27 and I find myself going on "kids these days" type rants already.
