Izzysdad
Has anyone done any research on this site? They have LOADS of BC pups for sale. I am not in the market for one, but found it while searching for BC photos. I can't imagine it's that reputable, but then I have been wrong before. Mind you they list just about every breed not just our beloved BC's. Tim
BC-Liz
Sounds like something I'd stay very, very far away from.

JaderBug
Unfortunately, I just recently found out that the breeder we've gotten all our dogs from is selling pups on this site. I've discussed my breeder in the past on here, and I really wish he wasn't selling on that site, but we love all the dogs we've gotten from them. They are from working lines, the dogs themselves are not worked, and I'm still waiting to see if Jade is going to turn into a proper working dog or not, haven't had the time to get her on sheep a lot. Regardless, the dogs we've gotten from him have NEVER had any health or temperament/behavior problems (out of 4 dogs), have always been wonderful dogs. I guess what I'm trying to say is just because the website is questionable (I don't advocate it if you're looking for working bred dogs) doesn't mean all the breeders on it are shady. If you're really interested in a dog on there or know someone who is, e-mail the breeder and scope them out first.

I think it's called spurbar. Of course I know nothing about them, but it almost seems like it's more of a place to advertise. I am very very scepticle of anything like this, and like anything else these days I'm sure there are questionable breeders on there especially with other breeds of dogs. If you have had great fortune with your dogs, than I would say that that is at least one positive about the site and that at least not everyone on there is running a mill. If you have a good breeding program and are not over breeding, why would you need to advertise like that?? That would raise alot of red flags for me on their breeding practices. Now that I know better (and as I mentioned I've discussed this on here in the past) I do question my breeder's breeding practices- it's not something I would like to follow. He's responsible for/about all his dogs and pups and they really are great dogs. I just wish his breeding program were a little different. If I remember right his son found the website and decided to try selling on it... went well, so they continued. Like I said, they're a good family with well behaved and healthy dogs- just wish his breeding program were a little different.
jdarling
Tim, Once you start looking into Spurbar's site a little more, you will find that they have 17 dogs on their website, 3 litters on the ground, 3 litters all due before the middle of July, they offer every possible color of pup around, have a Paypal button for "your" convenience, and have a conglomeration of Swafford (expelled from the ABCA), McCoy (expelled from the ABCA), Harrison (expelled from the ABCA), Lockeye, and Shere Thomas' lines. While they sporadically mention that their dogs have a "top working dog pedigree" or that the offspring are "turning out to be excellent herders" ... of the 17 dogs, there is one "action" shot of a dog on sheep. And then there is always this lovely claim ... as if it means something: "Sis has exceptional bloodlines and is a granddaughter of "ODIE" (top & bottom). Odie produced the top selling working dog at Red Bluff for $12,500." If you're looking for a dog from a reputable breeder, ask around from people heavily involved in the stockdog world. I'd stay away from sites like this. Jodi
Sue R
Any site with a title like "nextdaypets" is something to avoid like the plague. People who advertise on a site like that are either not reputable or simply ignorant, and I wouldn't suggest buying from a source that fit either (or both) of those descriptions. If one is going to buy a puppy especially a BC they need to come from the best breeders. One of the reasons I love BC's so much is how strict *most* people are about breeding and selecting their new puppies. Tim
Amelia
Hello all, As responsible dog owners, for us to be discussing a site like nextdaypets in any way, except how to shut them down is reprehensible. How do we do that? Never buy a pet store or internet puppy and spread the word. Simple. Job done. Laws don't work, regulations and the agencies that are supposed to enforce them don't work. Zero demand works. Let's look at the first 8 puppy ads on the site. 1. 2 chihuahuas - age 7 weeks. It's illegal to sell a puppy under the age of 8 weeks 2. Miniature austrailian shepherd. No such breed. To get one of these, you have to breed runts to runts and what you get is small dog with huge medical problems. Just ask any vet. 3. and 4. Shih tzu - Just reduced! Let's all say "hump and dump." 5., 6., 7. and 8. Yorkie-poo - how long will you love a dog that you chose because you thought the name was cute? 6. Maltese - "she is well liked around the store here." and she came through a broker from a torture chamber, I mean puppy mill. 7. Yorkie - "she is well liked around the store here." 8. Pomeranian - "She is a sweetheart and well liked around the store here." 5 through 8 are advertised under the banner of www.affordablepup.com. Had enough? No, you haven't if you would even consider buying a puppy, or anything from anyone who is or was or ever will be affliated with a site like this. (or who produces puppies for profit) The ASPCA just published a Puppy Mill FAQ based on undercover investigations of puppy mills made since around 1980. It will enlighten you. They are proliferating by the way. Double since the mid 1990s to a staggering 10,000, according to the ASPCA, who reports that they produce approximately 1 million puppies per year. Read it again; 1 million puppies a year. Somebody is making a profit. That doesn't begin to count the unfortunates that are smuggled illegally from countries with no humane laws to bother with. Those are all sold over the INTERNET, btw. This in a country that kills millions of dogs every year due to overpopulation. What does the arbiter of all great things canine have to say about this national tragedy! Click here for the 9/08 AKC Chairman's report by Ron Menaker, where he states in part: Management has been directed by the Board to aggressively pursue all dogs eligible for AKC registration. We intend to reach out, communicate, and educate those in the retail sector as to why an AKC puppy is the gold standard and why they should be registered with American Kennel Club. Read the ASPCA FAQ. Read the ACK chairman's report. Stop the madness!
