aschlemm
Hi, I haven't had a puppy in 14 years. Jake is 17 pounds at 12 weeks. Mom and Dad were both Border Collies. Mom was about 40 pounds. Dad was smaller and thinner. This was her first litter. Seven pups. All males and butterball fat. Am I looking at a giant Border? Not that I really care but I had hoped for about 40 pounds.
Journey
Not sure if it really holds true but the general theory is double what they are at 16 weeks for your adult size. for mine, this has been very close to the actual size...a 40# bitch is average, a smaller male is just that, smaller. gcv-border
I have also heard the "double the weight at 4 months" theory. I think it as good as any, but obviously with very MANY exceptions. For example, one of my dogs is from a sire (about 40 lbs) and dam (about 33-35 lbs) who produced my dog (about 40 lbs) but also another brother who is about 55 lbs lean. It can go the other way too (ie smaller that either parent).
