CSW
Tonight at Puppy Dynamics class, the trainer suggested I consider purchasing the book, Controlled Unleashed Puppy Program (available on the internet, not sold at the training facility). My 6 month BC pup, Star, gets too excited when working at class (play biting at me, unfocused) and is also stressed (whining, tail tucked), during the quiet times of class. I can stop the play biting usually with a sit command, but not always immediately. I have not had success with the stress other than taking her outside and then bringing her back again. She does great outside of class on walks meeting and greeting other people and dogs. She can get overly stimulated at home when I am playing with her and I have to watch for that. I was wondering if anyone has used the Controlled Unleashed Puppy Program and would recommend it for an easily stimulated or overly stimulated puppy. The trainer had not used it herself, but had heard about it. The trainer has 2 BCs of her own.
GentleLake
I've heard lots of very good things about it. If you're looking to find it online, know that the tile is Control Unleashed: The Puppy Program by Leslie McDevitt.
Root Beer
I very highly recommend it!! My own boy is starting to work on it - he started work on his mat this past Friday. Some people think of it as a "reactive dog program", but it's really not. It's a great combination of exercises that build fantastic confidence and self control, something all dogs benefit from. And Control Unleashed was the only thing that helped with my easily-over stimulated Speedy, who used to go over threshold because of his own movement!!! Sekah
It's a great book, and comes highly recommended just about anywhere. The puppy program version is basically the same as the regular version, only with some tighter editing and writing.
ourwully
The book sits by my chair and I read bits of it every day. I got this book when Juno was around 6 months but I really wish I had had it right from the start. It is worth every penny! One of the exercises in the book called Look At That is my go to command when I meet distractions. Juno used to lunge at dogs, cars, bikes, squirrels etc but now as long as i see them first I give her the command and all is well. bill
