sea4th
I got a lamb's head today, brains and all. One of the dogs will be the lucky recipient of this tasty treat. My question is, are the brains safe to eat. I'm leery of feeding anything having to do with the nervous system. Thnx.
Mark Billadeau
A quick search on line of the scientific literature did not turn up any studies of dogs being infected with scrapies. There is no documented natural prion disease in dogs. This report offers a hypothesis why dogs are resistant to infections of prion diseases. Prion disease susceptibility is affected by β-structure folding propensity and local side-chain interactions in PrP
juliepoudrier
FWIW, I used to work with a girl who grew up in Spain. She said they ate "brain sandwiches" when she was a child, at least until she came to understand what the word for brain (in Spanish) *really* meant. lol! Anyway, I know folks who feed heads and have no concerns. J.
