MicheleS.
My aussie was spayed nearing 8 months old and hadn't come into heat yet. I don't know what the average would be. Someone else might know. I might have been lucky with Gypsy. Michele & Hughie & Gypsy & Chase

Sue R
From what I have heard, Border Collies are relatively slow-maturing and I think the majority of bitches don't come in until 8 or 10 months, or older. However, you will need to keep a close eye because onset of first heat is very variable.

ness_bc
Kenzie came in at 8.5 months, her mum was in at 9 months however dogs from her breeder don't usually come in before around 14 months. Kenzie's wasn't line bred out of her stock but from an outside dam (who's lines were known for coming in earlish).
trailrider
I`ve had 2 come into heat at 5 1/2 months. Good luck.
jdarling
Echo didn't come in the first time until she was around 14 months.
pansmom
I don't know what the average is, but Pan went into heat at 8 months, almost on the dot. If your dog goes into heat first, please consider waiting a few months before you do the surgery (see previous posts on my profile page--sorry if I'm repeating, I think I may have told you this before, but I figure better safe than sorry). BCjetta
Hannah was right around 7 months when she had her first heat. I had her spayed at just over a year old.
border_collie_crazy
Misty didnt come into heat for the first time till her first birthday. Happy was spayed at 8 months and she didnt go into season before that, and she was only spayed that late becuase she got sick when her spay was first schedualed so it had to be put off.
