sluj
Any recommendations on grooming tools for a dog who sheds her outer coat? I have a furminator and a shedding blade that work well on the undercoat, but neither seem to do much for the coarser outer hairs (the ones that weave themselves into furniture and clothing, completely resistant to lint brushing and mostly to vacuuming). I've also tried hair brushes (both pin-type and soft bristle). What have I missed? oh, and she doesn't seem itchy, and she takes fish oil daily. Just sheds. Constantly. Thanks! haleigh
Every week (her 'shedding' weeks) I bathe Joy with warm water and baking soda. I let her sit for a couple minutes, then scrub her off with those zoom grooms to get all the loose hair. A cold water rinse does a pretty good job with closing up the pores to prevent more hair from falling out. The cold water trick is what does wonders with keeping the hair off the couch in the summer when Joy practically lives in a cool lake! 1sheepdoggal
I second the use of the Zoom Groom. Its the best 5 dollars I ever spent, and I use it daily in my grooming shop. Its the best little tool to date as far as Im concerned for short coated breeds. You can also use it when washing the dog and it gets a lot of coat out then too. trailrider
Get a large coarse carder - for sheep. They work the best on all dogs, especially the outer long guard hairs.
