airbear
Last weekend, Rex ran in his first sanctioned trial. It's been 8.5 years since I've 'launched' a new dog, and I had all the same fears/worries (what if he won't stand to be measured? What if he hops the fence to play with another dog? What if he visits with ring crew?) that I had when I started agility. Well, Rex did none of those things, thank goodness. He ran two Steeplechase, a Starters Jumpers and a Starters Gamblers. No Qs, since we clearly aren't sure what a tire is but I was absolutely thrilled with his attitude and enthusiasm. Oh, and there is no Wham! in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWde6i4fN-4 I can't not brag on Wick. She went 4/5 on Saturday, with three firsts, and even got ... a GAMBLE! I almost fainted! I think that Wick wanted to make sure that I knew who the #1 agility dog in the house is. Here's her (loud) Masters Jumpers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7QgLjN_-

gcv-border
I love seeing young dogs (mistakes and all) run when they are so enthusiastic. He will get it. Keep up with the great work. Jovi
airbear
Thanks guys! He's only done the tire maybe 5 or 6 times before this trial, and he's never really done an a-frame except at the fun match a few weeks ago. We're doing running contacts, and we won't worry about the frame until his DW is done. My instructors and I brought out our green dogs this weekend. For Daisy's philosophy about when to bring out your baby dog, click here. Our goals were: stay focussed (CHECK!), deal with hustle-bustle of trial environment (CHECK), get measured (CHECK), have fun (extra big CHECK!!!!). Rex started training agility last summer, and all he really knows is teeter and weaves. The rest is coming, and I think his future is bright. This is the dog who spent the first couple years of his life being a sheepdog.
