Border Collies TR
Is there any one who read Ray & Lorna Coppinger's book about dogs?
Liz P
Which one? I really liked their book on dog evolution and found their theories fascinating.
Shetlander
They do have some very interesting ideas, but I find some of the writing very off putting. I think they have quite a different way of looking at and living with dogs that doesn't appeal to me. But some people love their work. Border Collies TR
Do they have more books? The one I read is "a new understanding of canine origin, behaviour and evolution". Actually the theory of evolving dogs from wolf is really interesting.
Liz P
They have a few. I visited the college where he teaches while on vacation and bought his books from the store on campus. I don't know if they are available elsewhere. I would have to dig through the basement to find them. Dr. Coppinger's theory on people domesticating "dogs" that were already feeding off of scraps around camp makes much more sense to me than people bringing home wolf cubs. If you have ever been around full grown wolves you would know what I mean.
Border Collies TR
Taking wolf pups from the den and bring it to home for domestication sounds not logic. But for years people believed this "pinocchio hypothesis".
Brandon M
I once , almost, kept a coyote pup that I found on the side of the road next to it's dead mother I thought better of it but could see how an orphaned wolf might be domesticated because of a situation where it was orphaned.
