Bellaz Posted October 14, 2006 Report Share Posted October 14, 2006 We got one for Tess (GSH Pointer x) and she's a different dog altogether to walk, she's actually a pleasure to walk now. Jess (Border Collie) is really good on it too, she's a bit of a puller. We tried the halti collar but it didn't work for either of them. Betsy Posted October 15, 2006 Report Share Posted October 15, 2006 I had to look it up to see what it was. The leash is not attached at the collar area, but you can see it a bit out from the dog. The straps that go under the dogs legs are not stationary and tighten as the dog pulls. (Basically the leg loops are what your leash is attached to, they thread through a loop back between the shoulder blades.) There is adjustable fleece around the leg straps to prevent rubbing. I bought one of those at Wal-mart for $10 but it was not the Sporn brand and was called an "anti-pull halter" ... it does work very well. I also found that if you turn it around (so it hooks in the front of their chest) it works very similiar to the Gentle Leader Easy Walk Harness (I think that's the correct name). Bellaz Posted October 15, 2006 Author Report Share Posted October 15, 2006 My Mum bought one as she Dad was away for the weekend and she wanted to be able to take Tess for a walk and she is really thrilled with how well it works with Tess, I think she even used it on Jess - she doesn't pull as much but still pulls. Joe Anne Posted October 15, 2006 Report Share Posted October 15, 2006 I use the Gentle Lead No Pull Harness on my big Akita mix girl ~80 lbs. The difference is like night and day as far as her pulling. I had her trained to walk nice on a regular collar, til I hurt my shoulder pretty bad, and my hubby had to walk the dogs for a couple of months. He is a big guy and let her pull, said it didn't matter to him :mad: Well it matters to me. Instead of going through the rigors of re-training her, (I am concentrating training on my 2 y/o BC, Phoenix.. who keeps me quite busy!), I put the no pull harness on her, she does very well, and we are both very happy on our walkies. Sasha'sMom Posted October 16, 2006 Report Share Posted October 16, 2006 OMG! Sasha's new EasyWalk arrived in the mail about, oh, 30 minutes ago! I am loving it already! Of course, we had to fit her, but then off for a slooow walk around the block... she hasn't heeled like that since, oh, the instructor was watching in puppy class! (Hopefully it wasn't the brisk run earlier today that did it, but usually no) We've been using the Gentle Leader on her since she was a pup, but she HATES it and acts like she's mortified to be seen in it and terribly annoyed that it's on. Not to mention, she rubs her nose in the ground for the first half-mile of our runs. So anyway, I'm really excited about this... and had to tell SOMEONE, because this is a big deal for me. She's a terrible puller, and I prefer to out-engineer her (which seems to be the best way.) This way, we can actually go for a stroll! Yay! muddy bob Posted October 18, 2006 Report Share Posted October 18, 2006 A similar effect may be achieved with no equipment other than a lead. Simply run the lead down behind the right elbow then between the two front legs, across the opposite shoulder then up and loop under the main strap.
