Valhalla
This morning when I went to leave for work, the ram and two of the wethers were chasing one of the ewes all over the pasture. They were all acting like she was in heat, but she can't be because she is VERY pregnant. At one point, the ram even butted her, but I don't know if he may have been trying to butt one of the wethers and hit her instead. She was pretty stressed, so I cut her out and put her in a separate pasture with a few other sheep. Why would they be chasing her like this? Denise Wall
I have no idea what's going on. What's happening with this today?
Rebecca, Irena Farm
When some ewes go into pre-labor, the rams will sometimes act like they are in heat - the hormones apparently smell the same. Dollars to donuts you have lambs in a day or so! We had a pair of "surprise" early lambs yesterday - our first in Semora! Twin rams - apparently the ram majority trend is continuing with us . . . but for once that's what I want, as many boys as possible!
Miztiki
You're in Semora already? If so then congratulations! Have you thought of a name for your new farm yet?
Rebecca, Irena Farm
Irena Farm. I think I explained it somewhere else but it means harmony. I changed it in my profile but it's not showing right for some reason. We're living here but spending a lot of time in Brook Cove packing still. There's a lot of JUNK that we've collected in the eternal conviction that "We might need this someday . . ."
Rebecca, Irena Farm
OK, duh, now it's showing correctly. Maybe I wasn't reading it right - sometimes my dysphasia plays weird tricks on me (yesterday I spent about two minutes feeling for a pulse on the right side of a lamb's body, while explaining to someone how to look for a pulse on the left).
