Liz P
Under the guidance of both Dr. Dodman and Dr. Ogata, I have been using clonidine for the past few years to control noise phobia in my dog with severe PTSD and severe generalized anxiety (aftermath of multiple dog attacks). It has made a huge difference in his quality of life and allowed me to wean him off all his other medications. Now I only need to use the clonidine for storms, 4th of July and other scary events. I have also prescribed it to several of my patients with noise phobias. All of their owners report that it has made a huge difference and think it works much better than the traditionally used medications. I am putting this out there for people with phobic dogs to discuss with their own veterinarians. **This is a blood pressure medication so not safe in dogs with some medical conditions. You need to start with a very low dose and gradually increase it to find the right dose for your individual dog.** http://www.journalvetbehavior.com/article/S1558-7878%2810%2900222-4/abstract http://www.drugs.com/pro/clonidine-tablets.html
