Little Bo Boop
Has anyone on here tried coconut for scours? I had an old horse who was really having troubles, really loose, ,like liquid ;-( I was told to try coconut macaroons (yeah, the cookie ;-) ) and I'll be if it didn't firm him right up. I've since heard from a gal that they feed their horses shaved coconut a few times a week, and that they use the coconut oil as a type of tonic for foals, and also for scours. I would think that might be kind of handy to know or to have on hand during lambing. Reading up on it, it's pretty interesting. Evidently it's the Lauric acid that is responsible for all the health benefits. They claim it even has antimicrobial, antibacterial and possibly antiviral properties as well. Hey the cookies were cheap ;-) and they sure did the trick. Works on people too, Crohn's disease patients seem to get relief using coconut as a supplement.
