European Border Collies?

Recommended Posts

If this is posted in the wrong section - I am sorry and please move it

I am helping a friend who is looking at BC breeders - She will be looking for a puppy in about 1 year, but is starting to do research (she is a PHD).

What is the FCI? And how can you tell what kind of health certs a European breeder does?

Please help :D:D

Here's the FCI website. Basically FCI is a governing body of a bunch of international kennel clubs. The system in Europe is largely different than the system in the US in that (I think) in most countries only one group is allowed to register a breed, so you wouldn't have a situation like here in the US where at one time there were three working registries for border collies, and later the AKC. Unfortunately, because the FCI members are kennel clubs, you'd have to be careful as to the mindset of the breeder in question (i.e., show vs. working, etc.).

Do a search for ISDS ( International Sheepdog Society) in England. They list some breeders. You can

read their registration requirements and see what they require of a pup and it's parents to get an idea of what they require health wise.

ISDS is the mother registry of working border collies, with the registry being over 100 years old.
