Tea Posted February 5, 2009 Report Share Posted February 5, 2009 A friendly biologist sent me a note reguarding the fact that sheep are grazers not browsers. I thought I'd send out this note so everyone can see what I am up to! On Browsing Yes, Actually I do realize that. But I have been raising sheep that actually do browse. They make their living off the indigenous brush on the island where I live. I have very little open land, very little grazing availible. We browse them loose on the roads and trails where they eat Salal, evergreen huckleberry, young trees. And they are being culled so the ones that do not do well are eaten by us. They are browsing like deer. We are doing this because it makes sense to utilize the land around here the way it is naturally. Then we can harvest trees and raise sheep without clear cutting.....
