Cowhorse Lady
I plan on getting another rescue border collie by this summer and it will be a young dog or puppy. When I got my first border collie rescue, I made the mistake of tieing him (on a long light rope) near one of the horses paddocks during the first few days, as he came to me just prior to me finishing the dog pen. Ever since then, he thinks he must watch that particular horse like a hawk. I have since re-directed him from her, but I don't want this to happen with the next one. Of course, I won't be tieing this one up as I have the fenced yard for it, but how do you teach the puppy to not work the livestock? Should I keep it on a long leash whenever it is out until it learns and obeys commands?

No advice, but that's really interesting, that he specificied his watchful behavior to a single horse rather than horses in general.
