mbc1963
This is just a follow-up FYI to a previous post. My dog had gotten very ill (vomiting and diarrhea) after eating something in the woods. He was quite sick for 2 days, given antibiotics (metronidazole) and recovered fine. Last week, my neighbor (who loves the dog) got extremely ill with pretty much the same symptoms: diarrhea, cramping, vomiting, aches. He had to go to the hospital twice for IV fluids. Tests came up positive for Campylobacter jejuni - a form of bacterial intestinal infection. Apparently, this can transfer from human to dog and back again. I'm not sure my dog gave my neighbor this bacteria - it can be picked up in a variety of ways - but it's a good thing to know about for future reference. Symptoms can be mild or very severe. Just FYI. Mary
