Pipedream Farm
BJ & Nell are coming along nicely with their training. BJ is thoughful (at times too thoughful) and will decide she doesn't need to do anything with "puppy sheep" since they are already following Renee. Sooooo, Renee started working her on lambs; BJ must move to keep lambs on Renee. But sometimes lambs are too exciting, and you just gotta......... (future cow dog????) Nell is more freely moving; in fact she gets to balance point VERY fast. Once there she is looking to do something; given no other choice she will rush in on her sheep. Most of the time I work her on "puppy sheep" but will occasionally work her on lambs. Lambs and a quick young dog are not always the best combination...... There you have it, BJ & Nell showing off their rough edges. Mark
Sue R
(future cow dog????) I could use some of that! Thanks for sharing, Mark.

stockdogranch
Nice shots! Pups just can't seem to resist temptation, can they? How old are they? Anna

Allie Oop
Great action shots! I really like the angle of BJ's body in the first one. The last one of Nell with the lambs is quite exciting (especially for the lambs).
Rebecca, Irena Farm
It's funny how different - and similar they are. Ted can't stand for things not to move either. The goats were good for him because he seemed to learn a little patience. They gave him some fun stuff to do but they also rewarded him for applying strong, steady pressure instead of hoo-hawing all the time. They wouldn't be good to work him on very often however at this point - he was getting really jacked up on the biting! Future cowdogs indeed . . . I'm working Ted on the old ewes again and he seems to be settling down quite a bit. I'm hoping in August we can get some serious help - he doesn't need it - I do! You know how you said Nell is really, really fast?
Pipedream Farm
Nell is my smooth coated version of Peg. Peg has sharpened my timing; I had no choice. I also had to work on Peg's pace which I will do with Nell when she's ready for that exercise. Nell flies around to balance and then does this dance back and forth on her front feet anticipating me changing the balance; if I don't change the balance fast enough for her liking she'll rush in on the sheep. For now I control her distance by changing the balance, lying her down, and body pressure to correct her rushing the sheep. I get moments (fleeting) while wearing where she will pace. It's there; suppressed by puppy enthusiasm. Mark
Rebecca, Irena Farm
That sounds a lot like Ted. I'm not lying him down at all, but mostly trying to keep things interesting with a lot of turns and going through the sheep. Ted does know how to find pace, he's shown it since a wee pup, so I'm not a bit worried about it. I do think he's ready to learn to use it more reliably, however - just to cool his brain some. There's such a huge difference between Ted using his brain and Ted not using his brain - I think he'll enjoy this more when he's thinking and letting the sheep think too. Robin's promised to help me with that.

Marilyn T
Hey Mark! Looking good! What happened to the pup that was Stu's? Marilyn
Pipedream Farm
Marilyn, We still have Kit but have been working with the estate via Jessica to sort things out. As it stands right now he is to be the estate's farm dog for managing the livestock. Kit has a ways to go from puppyhood to farm dog and that is what is being worked out now.
