Why do e-collars fail?

Recommended Posts

I use invisible fencing.

1. The dog must be properly trained

2. The collar must fit properly, esp if you have a fluffy dog, the prongs must be close to the skin, unobstructed by fluff

3. The batteries should be changed regularly

I no longer use the warning beep - only the shock portion after my dogs were trained. By doing this, it safes on battery life and my dogs would never know when the battery dies.

I live on 5 pasture acres and inv. fencing is our only economic option - esp to give our dogs full run of the property. They are often outside for a few hrs a day unattended while I work inside.

My dogs also have no reason to run off the property except to chase the trucks that come down our culdesack (UPS, pickups, garbage - older dog races along propertyline) - or to chase the coyote who walks thru our property at midday - this happened once.

I think if I had an intact male or perhaps many distractions within view of my property, or even a dog with a perpencity to run, I would have to consider actual fencing in a portion of my property.
