trailrider
A few hours ago a 15 month old ewe lambed with a very small lamb. It cannot stand yet. I milked the ewe and tubed colostrum, and warmed the lamb. When I later milked out the mom on the other side, the cup ws filled with coffee. No sign of red or pink. Does this mean one sided mastitis in a first time lambing? I`ve never had this happen.
Rebecca, Irena Farm
Ewww, yeah, that sounds like mastitis. In a first time lamber, that's a no-second-chance cull offense here. It does happen - I think it's clogged mammary ducts. It can also be an injury to the bag, such as rough handling or an infected wound - but I'm still not a big fan of mastitis for any reason in a young ewe.
