josie23
I'm new to the boards but have several health-related questions about a friend's 1-year-old BC named Chip. My friend got the dog about 3 months ago from a family that couldn't really take care of him. About 3 weeks ago Chip suddenly lost a significant amount of hearing. He can pretty much only hear from 50-75 feet away. Is this common? I've never met a dog that had hearing loss at such a young age. Additionally, the dog has red mange, which is being treated. My friend's vet said having him fixed would reduce the chance of it returning, but my vet said that's not true and recommended we put him on some immune system boosters, which we have. I'd be interested on thoughts related to these problems. Thank you!
juliepoudrier
I have no experience with hearing loss like that. If Chop were mine, I would take him to the vet and have his hearing tested and let the vet look for possible causes if he does indeed have clinical hearing loss. J.
