cardiac arrhythmia and post exertion collapse

One of my border collies, Twist, has been diagnosed by EKG (read by a specialist) with a cardiac arrhythmia (sinus arrhythmia, I believe). It coinsides with his breathing and they did not seem overly concerned or treat it as an emergency. It was found when he needed some emergency surgery to sew up a hole inflicted accidently by another of my border collies. They collided at play (they are not working dogs) and got into a shuffle and a nip turned into a bite...

An extremely low resting heart rate caught the Vet's attention first (40). I was told 60 is average. Upon further examination, the heart irregularity was heard, once every 30 seconds. The EKG was performed and the above info was received.

The second concern I have, and we have an appointment to see a vet who is great at diagnosing ailments, is Twist will play frisbee for 10 minutes or so with no signs of exhaustion, pain or shortness of breath. Upon completion, he will enter the house, thump down on his side next to the water dish completely exhausted. Not fainting, no seizure, just super pooped. I do not believe this has to do with the temperature, it happens during the colder months also. I am currently searching for an article about labs and exercise collapse. Has any one heard of such a syndrome?

We see the vet on Tuesday, 10.8.02, to continue assessment on the heart and recheck the surgerical site. I would appreciate any input beforehand.

Thank you for your time. Yvonne
