geonni banner
Shepherds, Sheep & Sheepdogs by Iris Combe (1983, Dalesman Books) is an interesting read. It is written in a style which some may find a bit annoying. It's sort of like a transcript of an over-the-backyard-fence conversation, a chatty style. It can be charming, but sometimes I found it vaguely annoying. To balance that, there are a number of good photos and drawings - all b&w. That said, there is a great deal of interesting information about the subject matter, and a lot I had never heard - always a draw for me. Includes a 5 1/2 page description of a sheepdog trial in Britain, at Bala in 1873. It's 80 pages, softcover. I lucked into a cheap, signed first edition on e-bay. Check it out. You can find it on Amazon, too. Good photographs of some obscure sheepdog breeds of Britain.
