geonni banner
This is a book I read first in 1984. (Pub. 1980 - Uinversity of Nebraska Press) I had been thinking about for awhile this summer and got a used copy from Amazon. There isn't a dog in it from start to finish, but it's a good story, told without unnecessary curlicues or hype. It tells of the author's term as ranch manager to a 5000 acre cow and calf spread in the sandhills of the Oklahoma panhandle. There's quite a bit about the horses used on the ranch and some exciting moments with a really rank cattle. Interestingly, one of the neighbors, Mark Mayo, who figures large in the book has only Arabian cow horses on his ranch. Illustrated with photographs by Bill Ellzey. Check it out.
