Peggy
I'm having a problem with my dogs' lift. She is 2 and had been with trainer for 2 months. When she came home it was like starting a square one. Once we got the outrun fixed things were going well. All of the sudden she seems to have forgotten what to do when she gets behind the sheep with someone holding. She will go to one side and then back, stand and look at me as if what do I do now? At first I thought it was a problem involving the person holding sheep (my husband) but I have had others hold and the same thing happens. Spoke to trainer and he suggested not giving any commands just letting her figure it out on her own. Now 3 weeks later things are not improving. Any ideas would be welcome. ikw
When she looks confused at lift, walk out there and help her. Don't stand in one place and expect her to perform with or without commands. ------------------ Inci Willard Clearville,PA 814-784-3414 ikw@pennswoods.net
Guest newguy
what was she like before she went to the trainer? If she will not walk up I would be hissing her up and really encouraging her as well as being closer to give her confidence.
Peggy
She went to trainer last fall and basically knew nothing. She didn't have a problem with lift until about 2 months ago? Peggy
Guest PrairieFire
Different sheep...? Heavier and requiring a "harder" lift than the ones the dog was trained on? I've seen some pretty far along dogs - who have only been worked on "flighty" sheep - simply not know how to push more recalcitrant ewes... Go help her - do it up close - and build confidence... ------------------ Bill Gary Kensmuir, Working Stockdog Center River Falls, WI 715.426.9877 www.kensmuir.com
Peggy
Thanks for the responses. I think she is improving somewhat so I guess we will just continue more lifts. We have done this on heavy & light sheep. Peggy
