I read back in some of my early blog entries recently and I was surprised to read that I had written that Maddie would never be a competition dog. She didn't run sequences - she would only go over one piece at a time for a treat!

It wasn't long after we got Dean that she ran her first sequence - a jump, tunnel, jump - all without food until the end!! I'll never forget that. It felt amazing and Maddie had a blast.

She did her first trial about 9 months later and got her first Q's and titles later that year. She really stepped it up once he was on the scene - and that was before he went along with us to classes and trials!! Now she really turns it up a notch when he's around!

It was the same with Speedy. I was thinking of retiring him from Freestyle, but when I started training Dean, he lit on fire!
