Loki&Thor
Can you tell if my dog has any border collie in him? I got him from the SPCA, and they had him listed as a "pitbull mix". I don't really see any pitbull, but was thinking foxhound/border collie maybe? Whatever he is, I love him.. but I am curious. Or I could be wrong. Can you guess help me figure this out at all? Thank you in advance, J
koolkat01
First I thought Great Dane mix but he does look more like a Pitbull Mix like the SPCA said.
borderlicious
I don't see Border Collie in him. Honestly I don't see any herding breed in him. Pointer or Foxhound is a possibility but I would agree with the SPCA that there is some Pit Bull in him. That muzzle doesn't really remind me of anything else. That's funny, because he lifts his paw and howls a bit.
PSmitty
It'll probably be easier to tell as he gets older. How old is he? Got any profile standing shots? Right now I'm not seeing border collie, but he's freakin' adorable!
2 Devils
I see hound of some sort. He sort of looks like a dog I grew up with that was a Beagle/Basset Hound Mix. Barney was the best dog but I will never own a hound type dog.
MrSnappy
First I thought Great Dane mix but he does look more like a Pitbull Mix like the SPCA said. I think he resembles a dane mix as well. He's got a lot of snout for a pit, but I imagine if he was crossed with some kind of hound that would do it. He is very cute but I agree - not a BC mix. RDM (Edited to change "snot" to the more correctly intended "snout")
Kat's Dogs
I thought Dane as well. Dane/hunting Hound of some kind would be my guess. No BC though. But very cute! I love all the spots!
nancy
That face reminds me of the 3 current bassets down the street (the folks also do rescue, so we've seen a lot of bassets).
KrisK
I have to say I don't see any BC, but then I don't see any 'pitbull' either. I'd be inclined to agree with Nancy that he really has a basset hound look to him. Whatever he is, I think he looks like a fun pup!
Cheri McDonald
He's a cute little twirp whatever he is. I think you guys are right on some hound being in there and maybe some pitbull. He's is awfully cute!
Bo Peep
I was thinking basset also- kind of a cute little guy
RaisingRiver
His skin seems pretty loose. No BC that I can tell.
MrSnappy
Don't all basset mixes have short legs and long ears? I thought I read that somewhere. RDM
Sherry Thoeny
Could there be some lab in there? I don't know why, but he reminds me of a lab puppy my friend has.
painted_ponies
I'm going to guess Walker Hound. Click on this link Walker Hound Webshotsand scroll down to the rescue puppy pictures.
AK dog doc
IIRC, the Basset form of dwarfism is dominant, so it would show up in a mix. That's IF I recall right. I may be going senile. I love the little brown eyebrows.
MrSnappy
I may be going senile. Gosh I hope that doesn't mean you've forgotten that you agreed to take a red dog off my hands .... RDM
AK dog doc
I said I might be going senile. I did NOT say I'd completely lost it. Yet. Stick it in a box and mail it to me. A girl, please. The boys they is a fightin' if I bring in more males. And it might be best if you wait til Raven is firmly established as the queen of all my dogs (which appears to be her current ambition.) It'll be more of a bloodless coup then. Meanwhile, perhaps I should be shopping for Dave's next dog.... P.S. If you can arrange for her to have really cool ears, I'd be most appreciative. AK dog doc
!!!! You have the right idea EXACTLY. (But I thought you didn't adopt to those outside your area...?)
MrSnappy
!!!! You have the right idea EXACTLY. (But I thought you didn't adopt to those outside your area...?) I make exceptions for people I know and love. Ask ... oh wait, I can't tell you yet. Never mind. But Raising River got one too! So. What's stopping you now? Black Watch Debatable
Re the OP's pup --- gah, he's adorable. Real hound-y looking to me. Could well be part pibble. Black-and-tan is a super rare color in pit bulls, though, and his muzzle is on the long side... For comparison, here's a pup that was known to be half pit bull and half border collie: And here are three shots, at different ages, of a pit bull x ? that belongs to a family in Chicago:
AK dog doc
DANG! And here I thought I was safe, protected by a buffer of distance! I can see that my fate is already sealed, and it's only a matter of time... What's stopping me now...? Neighborhood convenants alone! But should my dog "pupulation" (or the convenants!) change, I'll be asking you to look out for one for me....! And maybe one from Luisa as well. Those puppies are ADORABLE. (And for my next trick, I will attempt to mind my manners and stop hijacking the thread... BAD doctor! NO BISCUIT.)
