Root Beer
I have found Mickey, the foster dog, to be a very picky eater. At first I thought maybe he was just reluctant to eat in a new place and all, but now that he has been with us for several days, I am very surprised at his lack of enthusiasm for his meals. If he were my own dog, I would probably put him on canned food for a while, but the rescue wants him eating kibble. He does not like kibble. He doesn't like the cruddy kibble that the vets office sent along with him. He does not like Sammie's super-good Wellness Simple Food Solutions kibble. He does not like the really good kibble that Maddie and Dean eat. He leaves his bowl of kibble to hang out by Speedy's feeding station. Yeah, I'd rather eat raw meat than kibble, too (if it were safe for humans to eat, that is!), but he's not my dog, so it is not likely that he is ever going to be raw fed. (Which is a shame because it would be wonderful for him, but that's neither here nor there). Thinking that Speedy's raw food is just too tantalizing, I've tried feeding him in another room. I have come to the conclusion that he does not like kibble. I have to wonder what on earth his people fed him that he got so fat on? I would have expected a dog that had obviously eaten A LOT of food to gobble up anything he could get his jaws on - especially after several days of picking at his meals. The lady from the rescue is giving me yet another kind of kibble to try with him. Hopefully he will go for that. It's a puzzler, though. 2 Devils
He may have been fed just people food and is trying to wait you out - hoping you will give in.
bc friend
Have you tried moistening his kibble w/warm water or watered down broth? If he has a sore mouth or loose/damaged teeth, he may like his food "wet".
MrSnappy
I feed all my dogs raw, fosters included. Often times they go to people who will feed raw, since they admire the shape the dog(s) are in when they see them and learn they are eating raw. Sometimes they switch back to kibble, which is also fine. I am not fanatical about a raw diet and don't insist my foster homes or adopters feed it. I am just too lazy to feed all the dogs different things, so the fosters get what everyone else gets! RDM
Kat's Dogs
I agree that he probably got all people food. a lot of overweight dogs don't really care about food (with many exceptions of course) they just get to much in a day - to many table scraps or doggie treats. He should come around soon enough though. Popcorn (little doggie) used to ONLY eat soft food or table sraps (this was a long time ago!) and didn't care about food at all. But then when I just switched her over to plain kibble (and limited feeding time) it took her a few weeks but these days she is food crazy! Root Beer
I guess hunger finally kicked in today because he ate all of his dinner. He still ate slowly, but he ate all of it.
