Books & DVD's

Recommended Posts

These books/DVD's are listed in my current DogSport magazine. I'm just wondering if any or all are worth picking up.

DVD - The Shepherd's Pup and A Hill Shepherd Trains his Border Collie published by Diamond Farm featuring Derek Scrimgeour

A way of Life: Sheepdog training, handling and trialing by H. Glyn Jones

Talking Sheepdogs: A new and exciting way to train your working Border Collie by Derek Scrimgeour

And one, just for fun, by the sounds of it - Border Collie Sheepdogs: Off Duty! - "chronicles the antics of a large herd (my ??'s) of Border Colllies ranging from baby puppies to pack elders."

Got 'em all!

Personally I like 'Talking Sheepdog' the best.

BC's Off Duty has some good music and some entertainment value for watching sheepdogs playing together, but not anything serious at all...my dogs seem fascinated by it though.

Derek's book "Talking Sheepdogs" is good. I prefer the new Aled Owen "Time Well Spent" dvd to the ones you have listed.

Another great dvd is The Year of the Working Sheepdog.

Another good book is "Training the Sheep Dog" by Thomas Longton & Barbara Sykes. For a light read "A Dog's Life in the Dales" by Katy Cropper is great

The Year of the Working Sheepdog is fabulous, and I also like The Shepher'd Pup for DVDs. For books, all those listed so far are good, and a personal favorite is The Farmer's Dog by Holmes,

You can get the Aled Owen DVD formatted for US/CAN through www.sheepdogshop.co.uk - when you place the order, it will be through the US/CAN pages and you should get the right format. If you are concerned, you can contact Mandy by email before you place your order and she will make sure you get the right format.

By the way, through Worldwide Distributors (through Amazon. com) I got a little DVD player that will play any region, which is nice so I can play the DVD about 30 years of One Man and His Dog, which I could only find formatted for UK and wouldn't play on a conventional US DVD player.
