iluvlucy
yesterday hubby and i had to take a trip 225 miles one way. what to do with lady???? lucy lou rides with no problem but lady hates the car. she doesn't getr car sick she just is scared to death. so we hardly had a choice. well she trembled and panted the whole 500 miles. stayed pressed against my side with my arm around her. but i am proud of her. she did so well. she discovered if she sat bacwards her body was more stable. so i need a way to make her feel secure. i also put the rear seat flat (suv) and that too seemed to help. i hope i didn't do her mind set any harm. nancy
A doggie harness will make her feel more secure. Worked like a charm for Fergie.
smileyzookie
Were you giving her affection while she was scared? I dont know if that rule applies in a car. I know if they're scared and you start comforting (at least out of the car) it actually doesnt help but worsens the situation. Like I said though I dont know if that applies in car. Im glad she didnt get sick though.
WyoBC
I don't think holding her would mess up her up as far as car rides. I would try the harness, from what you said "she discovered if she sat bacwards her body was more stable. so i need a way to make her feel secure" that would do the trick. I think as long as you didn't cuddle her and try to pour kisses and hugs on her she'll be ok. I have found that sometimes when something scares Black Jack, just a "it's ok....... good boy" does wonders. But I don't think one kiss on the head would hurt anything either. ( but just one )
Shetlander
Could you give her a crate to ride in? Preferably a soft crate that wouldn't rattle? I use a seatbelt for Quinn so he can enjoy the view, but the Lhasa and my seasick sheltie want to be in their crates.
