Allie Oop
Dog Car Sickness Drug Just FYI - Apparently, the FDA just approved the drug Cerenia as a treatment for dogs who suffer from car sickness. The drug will be available only through veterinarians. I've never had a dog who suffered from car sickness before, but I have a friend who has 3 dogs, 2 of which get terribly ill when traveling. She is anxiously awaiting the drug from her vet.
smileyzookie
My dads dog gets car sick. When I woke out of a 2 week coma a few years ago, I was dizzy A LOT. They gave me Meclizine. A vet said to try it with her carsickness. So Mom gave that to the dog once for a vet appointment, and it worked great. Wierd I know, but it did work. fooshuman
You mean they need a drug to do the same thing some ginger can do? I just feed Sydney a couple of ginger snaps and waa-laa she is good thru the whole ride. Not sure if it works 100% of the time, but $1.99 is alot cheaper and it is probably healthier. lance
Is it possible for a BC to get car sick and not throw up. Bandit is fine driving in the car for the first 10 minutes of ride. He will change from a calm dog to a hyper, whinny, pacing, barker. It does not matter if he is in the crate or not while driving. Drives me crazy. I've tried benadryl before to no avail. Where does one buy ginger snaps? It's worth a try!

Ginger snaps do not work for all dogs. I have plenty of experience cleaning up my car after using that particular treatment. My sheltie has suffered car sickness all her life. I've tried ginger snaps, dramomine, rescue remedy, benedryl, some medication the vet gave me, and ace. Ginger snaps were not especially effective for her. Ace probably worked the best though I know many people see Ace as a terrible drug. But nothing has worked all the time for her. I'm personally very interested in what this new medication might be. Deneen
I've tried ginger snaps. Sydney puked. I tried other brands of ginger snaps. Sydney puked. I tried calming treats that contain ginger. Sydney puked. I've tried Dramamine. Sydney puked. While Sydney doesn't always get car sick now like she used to, she still does get sick on longer trips with curvy or hilly roads. I will definitely ask my vet about this drug, so we can take her with us on longer car rides! The last time we went to visit our families, we boarded the dogs just because Sydney got so car sick the last time we made the same trek. ~Kelly

Sassy sometimes doesn't last over 10 minutes in the car. She no longer goes anywhere but to the vet.
SamDog
Dramamine works great for Jake. Is is possible for dogs to grow out of the car sick thing?
Shetlander
Is is possible for dogs to grow out of the car sick thing? I think most puppies do. I've had two other puppies who had some problems with car-sickness and they grew out of it just fine.
