sweet_ceana
I am ashamed to admit it but Ceana has been horrible on a leash. We have been struggling since she was 4months old to get her to stop pulling. This was obviously an operator error because she figures out everything else we need her to do just fine. I think we finally discovered how to make this work on our evening drag last night and I thought I would put it out there for anyone else who is struggling and doesn't want to admit it. When she was little she did not pull, but once she hit 4months she would choke she pulled so hard. We tried many methods: not moving until the leash had slack, verbal commands, teaching her to sit at random and change things up just let to pull sit pull. She would not take treats, we even tried the dog whisperer pack leader leash correction thing and we got no reponce... until last night. It was like everything we had tried was in a different language. Last night, we turned around and walked backwards facing Ceana. She tried to get around us and gave up. Then I faced forward and hung her lead (she had on her leash) in between Chris and I and she stayed behind. Then Chris turned around and though she tried at first to get around us she stayed put. I used the lead to apply pressure like I had been reading about how the dogs use pressure in hearding. It was the nicest walk we have had in a very long time. So to anyone out there who is fraustrated teaching anything, don't worry! If I can get my dog to walk on a leash anything is possible if communicated properly. Vickkers
As someone who has a vertiable sled dog she pulls so hard this is very interesting to me... so if I have this right you basically walk backwards facing her? For how long? I am going to try this when I get home tonight...

Vickkers
Ahhhhh good to know... I tried it this morning but of course I was by myself and ran into a few mailboxes Guess I'll try it with my DH this weekend. Oh, and she fought me the entire time
Pippin's person
That sounds like a smart, creative strategy--I'll try that next time pulling on lead rears its inevitable head in our pack.
