WyoBC
I took Black Jack to the park yesterday for our weekend walk, and too see what other dogs were there. We were about fifteen minutes into our walk and this loose lab (there's a leash law) came running up to me and tried to snap at me, so I hit him with me knee, then he tried again so Black Jack barked at him and tried to bite him to keep him away from me. I kept Black Jack away from him since I had him on a leash. But finally the owner called him about five times and the dog left. I called the police and told them what happened so they sent an officer to talk to me. After I told her what happened she said she was going to talk to them. Well come to find out it was the sargent's lab that did it. He told the officer "what" happened and he had other people that saw the lab just wanted to play. I was so mad, I told him "I have been around dogs all my life, and I have been around labs too, I know what they do when they want to play and he didn't want to play" But they let it go and didn't say anything but I gave a false report to 911 He didn't even abey the leash law and the officer didn't say anything to him. I'm just so mad, it's not right that you can't even go to a park without watching other people's dogs.
Dixie_Girl
AJ, I'm so sorry this had to happen. I'm glad you and Black Jack weren't hurt. Unfortunately, because there were no injuries, and the lab's owner is on the force, you are just SOL! Regardless of what the lab's intentions were, a leash law is a leash law. But it is the hazzard of taking our dogs out in public, some people, even the ones who should know better the best, will not follow the rules. Kat's Dogs
That sucks. I hate taking Dazzle around any other dogs, not just because she has a huge fear of any dog that comes near her, but you have no idea anymore if the dog is nice or not. People don't seem to understand dogs anymore, so they have no problem letting their aggressive dogs off leash and say "oh, he is just saying hi". I am glad that Black Jack is OK though, and you - that is what is the most important when it really comes down to it. I just hope that lab doesn't do the same thing to some 80 year old woman walking her 3 pound yorkie.
smileyzookie
I can understand your frustrations. I used to work for a couple different sheriffs dept's. Trust me, when it comes to blaming another cop for something, they just dont. Even if the investigating cop knows its wrong. Im glad you guys are ok, and nothing more serious happened. Kats right, that is what is the most important when you get down to it
sea4th
Although I agree that it sucks that you can't walk your dog without watching out for other dogs, I've just made it a way of life that that's what I do when I'm out with the other dogs. I also think it sucks tho, that the sgt. wasn't made answerable for his irresponsibility as a dog owner. I have a similar situation - where our councilman, who was behind some proposed legislations such as limit laws, BSL, stuff like that, had a dog of his own, a shepherd mix. She was unlicensed and allowed to roam the streets. He said one time that she was a good dog, even been hit by a car a couple of times - but they still let her roam the streets -- and this jerk thought himself capable of passing laws affecting other dog owners. A couple of people called into animal control about a loose and unlicensed dog---his. After that, the situation was remedied. He's not only councilman but council president now. ShoresDog
Indeed, the most important thing is that you and Black Jack are both unhurt. It could have been worse, so that's a good thing (we had a similarly scary experience with an unleashed Akita that left Daisy with some puncture wounds). But that whole story is really annoying, not only because it is just plain wrong and there's so little chance of doing anything about it, but also because it's depressing when a young person comes face to face with the unfairness of the world. Oh well, we love you!
road guy
so it was the cops dog? am I reading that right?
Beth G
Man that's just a bunch of BS! I'm so glad you are ok though.
sweet_ceana
If you want to make a big stink about it you could write a letter to who ever is above the sargent.(sp?) I would pick a supervisor outside of the department though. Even if people were quoted saying the dog was trying to play on the report it still documents that the sargent broke the law and was not penalized for his/her actions. I had a similar experience this month with an off leash dog and it really is bs nothing happened.
WyoBC
Thanks guys. I pretty much let it go now since it's a small town and half the force is crooked. Around a year ago they caugh two police officer's dealing drugs out of their police cars! So I figured I'll just let it go and maybe he wont make something up later to pull me over. Yep it's the sargent's lab. He was almost three times as big as Black Jack, and tried to hump him but I moved Black Jack before he could. hoku's mum
Grrrrr, I just hate that kinda crap. Glad that your both OK. Sound like a situation that could have turned out much worse. Just the other day, I took Hoku up to town, working on his manners, and took him into our local doggie store. He was great, having fun greeting people nicely, getting lots of sniffs of all the goodies, when in waltzes in a guy with a fluffy smallish dog, drops him down, off leash, and engages in conversation with someone. That dog beelines to us and sticks his nose up Hoku's butt, and I'm trying to get between them, calm Hoku, get the guy's attention, and finally Hoku growls at the rude dog. Of course, people look at Hoku like he's some mean dog. Luckily the store owner saw what was happening and asked the guy (clearly a good client) to please take his dog outside, as Hoku was getting pretty wound. She then gave Hoku some attention (he calmed down) and a cookie, and I high tailed it out of there. Some folks are just so, so, so, ...... oh, I don't know, brainless, sometimes. I guess the lesson is to be prepared to deal with off leash dogs... not quite sure HOW, any thoughts anyone?
Beth G
Yeah isn't that always the way? No matter how many manners your dog has, along will come a rude dog and all your dog has to do is growl a polite warning and people will blame your dog instead of the other person's rude dog that has no manners!!! Odin's Momma
I would so take this to a newspaper! But I guess if the cops got witnesses to lie, that doesn't help. PLus they sounds like a bunch of crooked jerks anyway! I just hate it when totally unfair things happen like this, makes ya feel so powerless and it's kind of disillusioning too, right? Cause you're supposed to believe that justice prevails and all that but really, the good guy doesn't always win
WyoBC
Yeah, I guess that's what happens. I don't have any ideas on what to do with other people's dogs. Why do people have to be so lazy that they can't put a simple leash on when they're around other dogs? Black Jack isn't on one around the house but he sure is in town. I don't like the people that say, "they're dogs, they should run free" My (so called) grampa is like that. It makes me mad. Ok, rant over now What I'm mad at is, how are you supposed to trust the police when the sargent will lie right to your face? That sure makes me feel safe, NOT.
