Why can't people be responcible?!!

Recommended Posts

Ok, I just need to burn off a little steam. We had to move fairly quickly so we had no chance to sell our house, and until we can we are living in an apartment. I really wanted a yard for Ceana, but sometimes you have to make do, so we found a complex that is a fenced community with a "dog park" inside the complex. It is not the largest thing but it is enough to play frisbee and work on training. Only problem is, the park is attached to the parking lot and although it is in the gated community and it is enclosed in that sense there are no fences to seperate the dogs from cars or apartment buildings. Just in case, we bought a twenty foot lead. Ceana no longer crouches down and considers "hearding" cars, but better safe than sorry.

The other evening we took Ceana to the park to potty and play and work on her recall. As we approached the park I saw a woman dart out of her apartment with a leash and run in front of us. She had left her two dogs in the park alone with no supervision!!! She was in her apartment while they were outside! Worse they were not well behaved! One of her dogs, whom had no recall it seemed charged up to ceana and tried to bite her! Chris had to kick the dog (not too hard) to get it off Ceana! The woman came over and grabbed her dog and put the leash on. She apologized, but come on, the dogs should not have been by themselves, especially an agressive one! We calmed down Ceana by getting her to focus on me instead of the barking dog being dragged home (which I am very proud of her for...making progress!!)

Ceana did not take the assualt lying down though. As for revenge the next day she peed on the rocks outside of the apt where those dogs live. Either way if that ever happens again, I hate to be a tattle tail, but I am going to report it. Thanks for letting me vent.

I know the setting you're reffering to, I live in a similar apt. complex. But the dog run IS separated from the parking lots, it's only for dogs. And I know of antisocial dogs, whose main fault it's simply their owners. After interacting a couple of time with my dog, he got them to turn around and act friendlier.

If an unattended dog (or even if their owner is present) would atack my dog, I bet you I would react. First verbaly, then trying to separate the dogs. And if that doesn't work, I wouldn't have any issues kicking one of the dogs (including mine, if he would ever atack a helpless dog). Luckily this has never happened.

At the dog park I've seen him holding his own if under atack, so I don't worry, and I usualy just yell at the dogs to cut it out and call mine closer.

I encourage you to talk to the apt. manager if this happens again, but not before you talk to the owner. I had spoken with mine a couple of times recently due to the mess that a few dog owners refuse to pick up after their animals. And it makes it disgusting and impossible to play in the dog run when "land mines" are planted everywhere!:D

I get so mad at people when they just let their dogs run when they're aggressive or other wise. I think to myself "I have mine on a leash, why can't they?" I have had people say, "well they don't like the leash, or they won't walk with me on it" Well if they don't walk on a leash then the owner should work with them more! Mine does just fine with it, I'm sure they would too. I know how you feel. But there's just to many careless people out there I guess

I'm glad everyone's ok though, it could have been a lot worse.
