border_collie_crazy
lol every years since happy was young she has gone trick or treating, as I am often asked to go with kids who are slightly older and dont want to go woth their parents, but there parents dont want them going alone, so I would get asked to go with these kids and Happy always came along. well this year we are just handing out candy, and when I see kids comming I let Happy outside to say hi, well most of them so far have had dogs with them so Happy has not been able to go say hi. but we finally had a kid come so I let Happy go say hi...and she tried to go with the kid on the rest of his rout! lol intsead of comming back inside when I called she just followed heeling beside this kid ready to go on to the next house it took some convincing to get her to quite trying to trick or treat and come back and help hand out candy lol
Nik
Poor Happy...I hope she wasn't too disappointed that she didn't get to go get her own candy. Sounds like she really took a liking to this kid.
border_collie_crazy
lol Happy likes ALL kids, she used to be fear aggressive with them, but that went away pretty quick when she discovered that hey, the only things kids do when they come near is play with her! she loves halloween because she has always gone right up to houses with kids, sometimes even with her own trick or treat bag, and peoples always invite her in, and pet her, and go to the kitchen and grab her a pepperoni stick or a dog treat of they have dogs, so obviously Happy thinks trick or treating is the greatest thing ever oh and for those that know Happys History and are well aware that Happy didnt completly get over her kid fear till she was 3.. well she actually has these phases, there are certain scenarios that she has no problem being around her fear, even now, she is terrified of starnge dogs and attacks them, yet she helps catch strange runaway dogs without a fuss, and never had an issue with the runaway dogs we have found and brought home to clean up and find their familys. Allie+Tess&Kipp
Hee hee! Happy obviously thought that kid needed a doggie escort!! LOL! What a great story. I love the stories you tell about your dogs. We live out in the middle of nowhere so we drove up the street to see our friends with kids and took them treats. Trick-or-treating in reverse. Deneen
What a cute story! Happy sounds very fun. I was curious how other people handled trick-or-treaters. Last year I had to work pretty hard to keep the dogs inside when I opened the screen door to hand out candy. This year I decided to just remove the screen from the screen door. That way the solid part of the screen door would keep the dogs on the inside with me, and I could just hand the candy through the opening where the screen normally is. Well, Sydney was so excited to see everyone that she kept trying to jump through the opening. Thankfully the kids thought she was funny and not scary. Silly dogs. ~Kelly
Lunar
LOL Poor Happy, so disappointed. I don't worry about Zoe because she hides when people come to the door... but we crate Zeeke at halloween. He's very protective of the home and it would scare the kids and he'd try getting out the door.
Nik
Well for the first time that I can remember we didn't get any trick or treaters last nite. We really only got a few neighborhood kids to begin w/ in previous years. But last year I had to put the dogs in another room just to make sure they wouldn't freak out at costumes. (They did this one time w/ my son when he made an Indian costume at school around Thanksgiving...he tried it on to show me and Pache went berserk until he realized it was Nolan.) They bolted out the front door when the first T or Ter came by and when the mom backed out of the driveway, they herded the car and wouldn't let her leave until I could get them back in. That was one of the first times that I had problems w/ them chasing cars. Up until that point they didn't even notice cars riding down the road. We will continue to keep the dogs in another room when Halloween comes around for their safety and for the kids.
Keith Ramsay
I have a blast... I sit outside with dog and cat and hand out candy. They get to meet and greet every kid that wants to pet them. It is a tough job... LOL.
Cheri McDonald
Rob Dog adores Halloween and sits at the door waiting for me to open it so he can see what strange surprise will be out there next. It's so funny.
