A big THANK YOU to Jack Knox for the excellent sheepdog clinic he presented this weekend. He's always educational as well as enjoyable. It was, for me, a humbling experience but very worthwhile (as always). Now, if I can just put into effect all he tried to teach me...

And also a big THANK YOU to Stacy Scott and Peter Hall of Maggie's Farm, who hosted the clinic. They provided the facility (the farm is beautiful) and fabulous hospitality (it was worth going for the food alone). Thank you for taking over this fall clinic and providing such a resource in our area!

Thanks, too, to all the participants that helped make the clinic so enjoyable and helped us all to learn. You had to be there to see Julie's little Phoebe escape during a pen/crate change and charge onto the field with real intent to round up those pesky sheep, showing terrific instinct and inborn talent in action!

Now, if only Mother Nature had been a little bit more generous with the sunshine and a little less liberal with the frost and the wind...

I second that! The food was amazing, the setting was stunning almost to the point of distraction (yeah, THAT's why I tumbled down the hill!) and as usual Jack was, well, what can you say. This was, I think, a particularly constructive clinic for me, though I think that each time now. It's always nice to have the opportunity to learn when distractions are minimized through the efforts of the hosts to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Did I mention the FOOD? It was also nice of Stacy and Peter to provide an EXCUSE to make a complete pig of oneself with the advanced dogs being at the top of the hill and the round pen at the bottom. Guilt free gourmet eating. I almost forgot, did I mention the FOOD? World class all the way.

Third on that! I had an absolute ball. I really feel like I got so much out of this clinic!

Thank you to everyone - Jack Knox, Stacy Scott, and Peter Hall -- and of course Becca, Julie, and Sue as well (for sharing rooms, resources, and company). The food was fantastic, the farm lovely, the hospitality great, and the clinic so well organized. It was also nice meeting Deb and JoeAnne for the first time (for me, anyway).

I agree, it was nice to learn with minimized distractions (well, when one wasn't busy backing into a tree, anyway). Hopefully I can put the things I've learned into use efficiently (even if I have to handcuff myself to stop from flapping like a bird).

It was great to meet everyone over the weekend. It was a fabulous clinic! Stacy and Peter went above and beyond, everything was perfect. It's great to get to put some faces to the names you see. Now I just have to digest what I've learned and put it into practice.

Here are some photos from the weekend. Hope I do this right

The moonlight walks were so nice Michelle - it was great to meet you! And for some reason watching your dog in the round pen made me make a lot of connections. Maybe his expressions are so easy to read, and he was a very nice natural dog where you could see it was REALLY right when the "switches" went off. I kept meaning to tell you that and kept forgetting. I was really glad you came for that selfish reason.

So sad. I can't see the pics . . . :D

I can't see the pictures either. :D I also want to add my thanks to Stacy, Peter, and Jack. Stacy and Peter certainly fed us amazingly well, which kind of defeated the purpose of that nice hill we had to negotiate regularly! No wonder they're both thin! They were most gracious hosts. Jack's patience and sense of humor were much appreciated too.

I also enjoyed watching everyone's dogs and getting some great advice on training my own youngster. The proof of whether I can make Jack's advice work will come in a couple of months at Becca's! And for those of you who watched the Rabid Possum's mad dash for the sheep, she will be making her debut (probably an inside dog since I clearly can't catch her out in the open) in Semora in January.

I'm getting a message that I'm forbidden to access the files. It may be my Mac.

Hmm. It's something to do with my Mac AND Safari. At least when I switch to Firefox I get the dash that means I can ctrl-click and get the image.

Wow, the first one I happened to download is a great shot of Jack. We need to chat privately . . .

I don't get any of them to show when I do the "right click, show picture" function. Too bad because I kept forgetting to bring my camera up the hill and so never got any of my own. Thanks for sharing even if some of us aren't getting it!

That didn't help the problem I'm having Laura. These are so good I'm going to transfer them over to a photobucket folder if that is ok with Michelle.

Sue,

I had to right click, choose properties, then copy the URL and paste it into my web browser to view the images. Once I did all that, they appeared in this thread so that they now show up all the time. It was a lot of work though....

ETA: Well they showed up till I posted this message--now I'm back to the boxes. But at least I got to see them once.

I have to 2nd everything ya'll said about the clinic and add my thank you to Stacy and Peter as well.

Despite a few not so happy moments for my boy Phoenix...sigh..., we both had a great weekend and boy oh boy did we learn alot. I don't know about Phoenix but my brain is really on "overload"!

Jack is amazing!!!! and a wonderful teacher!! Being one of the wet behind the ears, newbees, of the herding world, I appreciate his speaking in terms that I can understand and learn from, and his taking the time to answer all my questions.

I also want to take a moment to say how nice it was to meet everyone and all the good advice you shared with me about nutrition, training, and encouragement especially when it comes to my boy's whacky little ways! I love him so, and I know with the help of Jack and all our new friends we will someday be able to "run with the big dogs!" LOL

You are all wonderful, thank you from my heart...

Jack (and his wife, Kathy, an excellent clinician herself) do clinics all over the country. The next one I know of in our area will be at Rebecca's in north-central NC in January (it's listed in the clinic announcements on the boards).

Jack and Kathy live near Butler MO. I do not have contact information but someone with that info might be able to PM you and you could contact them and find something closer to you.

I've noticed that many clinics don't seem to be "publicly announced" but rather the info goes out in emails, etc., to folks who have indicated an interest to and are known to the clinic hosts. Some clinics are posted on Sheepdog-L.

Best wishes!
