Rebecca, Irena Farm
Does anyone know the source for this article? http://www.dogstuff.info/genetics_and_bord...llie_usbcc.html Thanks,
Eileen Stein
Yes, it first appeared in the USBCC newletter in 1997. It is also on our website at http://www.bordercollie.org/kpgene.html and is available in pamphlet form. If you want a copy or need further info, let me know. kevinb
If you are interested in genetics of dogs you might want to read Dogs by Raymond and Lorna Coppinger. THe book presents an interestiing theory on dog evolution.
karrider
Its a very interesting article, a shame though their colour genetics are innacurate. Karin
Eileen Stein
Substitute B for E and b for e, and "chocolate" for "red," and it will be the scheme you're used to. The colour stuff is peripheral to the article, really -- it's just used to illustrate a simple inheritance pattern, and as such it's sufficient for the purpose. Guest luvdabcs
I agree with Eileen Stein and have seen this page sent to lots of groups and forums. The DNA info is growing in dogs. My BC's are going to be part of a genetics study that is breed specific. They are trying to determine breed specific dna traits and behavior traits as well. I think it will be interesting to see what they can learn about the DNA of Border Collies.
Rave
Friend of mine used to head up the genetics dept. for a certain 3-letter registry. She mentioned one of the projects she was working on was genetic testing of mixes to determine what mix of breeds they were. I think that would be most interesting.
