sea4th
I read on another board that AKC will close it's books on open registration for border collies in January 2006. I know that question has been tossed around here. This is the first I was aware of it. Has anywone else heard anything on this? Eileen Stein
When AKC first recognized the border collie, they said that there would be a three-year open registration period, from Feb 1995 through Jan 1998. In Oct 1997, they voted to extend the open registration period for another three years, saying that it would close in Jan 2001. In Dec 2000, they voted to extend the open registration period for another five years, saying that it would close in January 2006. There has been no change since then, so the studbook is presently still scheduled to close then. Whether they will extend again is anyone's guess. At the time they extended it to 1/06, the minutes of their meeting stated "no further extension would be granted unless [the BCSA's] efforts to increase registrations during this five-year period were successful."
